RE: T&E: Biofuels globally emit more CO2 than the fossil fuels5 Nov 2025 13:18
Globally, an estimated
181.5 to 182 billion tons of lignocellulosic biomass are produced annually, with only about 8 to 8.2 billion tons currently utilized. This massive volume of waste includes agricultural and forest residues, organic solid waste, and paper mill byproducts, representing a significant untapped resource for producing biofuels, bioplastics, and other products. For specific crops, rice straw and wheat straw have the highest worldwide availability among the major agricultural wastes.
