Live Nation: With friends like MelodyVR who needs enemies?16 Jul 2020 08:50
Live Nation organised an impressive series of drive-in music events across the UK. They have now been forced to cancel these as a result of recent localised lockdowns. One imagines the global events promoter’s revenue forecasting went into rather more granularity than ‘The fonts’ but a key motivation will have been to offer their customers the vital synergy between the performer and the audience. Live Nation’s corporate responsibility in taking this difficult decision is to be totally applauded.
However, the tsunami of schadenfreude, arrogance and conceit from MelodyVR’s shareholders is an object lesson in how to destroy a commercial relationship. The comments below require no commentary, and I lead with mel5 who is a conduit of information from MelodyVR to these boards.
“August was going to be special, now there is even more to celebrate!! GLA” (mel5)
Melody just become the most important partnership to Live Nation
“Live Nation need revenues much more than Melody do.” (BigGib)
“The line ups hardly earth shattering either.” (Kingofkeighley)
“… there will be a certain sense amongst some of the customers who will feel in some way "cheated" by having to pay upfront and then get their money back … there will be certainty of delivery with melody. …” (The.Italian)
These damaging comments will definitely be captured by Live Nation’s press office and I would be staggered if the company won’t be flicking through its rolodex to find more supportive production partners …
