Goodwill on the books is way overstated - not sure why its not been tackled before - I guess they are 'kitchen sinking' the numbers and may explain why not one BOD has purchased a single share since January.

Agreed on stores - 50 is CVA territory but read the article and between the lines and thats not what is being said - well not at the minute.

Tricky to evaluate a retailer on one store, I often wonder how Next operate on the High Street when I am virtually the only one browsing.

I also know at different times it goes like a train. Ditto DEB's.

Agreed on the promotions - a never ending Sale - get inside that sale though and you will see very limited availability on sizes and very much line clearance - as per any sale. It reinforces the full price - full range availability more than you think.

Shopping Sale is a male thing IMV - ladies seem to buy what they want - less price sensitive.

MA wants it - in fact needs it to complete the HOF jigsaw. He has a dilemma - pay the market price on an agreed takeover of DEB's assuming it has turned the corner or indeed shows evidence it can or wait until what?

I do not think time is on his side.

Plus there are some 140m shares to buy back. If the BOD indicate they are in a stable and moving forward position then 20p a share is not unreasonable post results - god alone knows under that situation what Odey will do - dig himself in deeper?

What is interesting is the BOT's have been unplugged in the morning - nothing going either way to speak of.

I reckon any takeover would be SPD paper and not cash and frankly MA will be ruthless - I do not beleive there is much love between him and the BOD.

In truth Xmas will be DEB's turning point (either direction) if its poor then Sergio is toast - if its OK then we will limp into the 20's. If MA wants it I think he will need to find 40p plus - any whiff of takeover could put 30% on this sp.

Frankly its all a mess.

Absolutely not - blatant insider abuse and possible jail time. Tipping someone the nod however - uncle, friend etc similarly is insider dealing but does go on as we all know.

One week to go and FWIW they will tell us pretty much two things:

Either Odey has been 'inside' since 2016 and just foretelling the end of DEB's in its current share arrangement (I am not saying the end of DEB's - either a dilutive CVA or prepack/admin) or motivated by greed and possibly a covering SPD's position on the downside he has manoeuvred himself into a hole from which he will struggle to extricate himself from.

Everything I hear tells me its not the former so I am favouring the latter and now have 640,000 shares to sit alongside that view - sadly only about 20% bought below 15p and most above 50p - so my opinion by definition is pretty suspect.

That said anyone else sense the tide is turning?

Indeed - MA's mindset is all wrong for HOF - my recent take on his Flannels emporium was overwhelmingly negative.

He is a market trader made good.

As for Harrods of the north - where is the wealth that can sustain this within Glasgow? Demographics alone should make him think twice throw in a comparatively small tourist base (Harrods is a destination in its own right in London), a small hinterland that is overwhelmingly poor and this idea has disaster written all over it.

I hope it sinks him. For how long SPD shareholders allow him to play Gordon Gecko is unknown but they must surely be questioning his judgement.

I see margin improvement arising from less competition ultimately and of course selling stuff people want and can only buy via them or their concessions.
