Honda may have just launched its tiny, funky, slightly overpriced electric car, called simply “e,” to mixed reviews in Europe and Japan, but in China on September 26, it will unveil the brand’s first-ever dedicated EV concept car for the Chinese market at Auto China 2020 in Beijing. The teaser image (above) revealed together with the information-starved teaser story, is abstract to say the least, revealing a sharp-nosed EV with stylish LED headlights and not much else.

GM’s new EV platform is capable of catering to 19 different battery and drive-unit configurations. To be produced at GM’s plants in North America, GM’s hands-free advanced driver assist technology, called Super Cruise, will feature in the new vehicles as well.

Washington, DC (CNN) - A day before a surprising admission from Tesla CEO Elon Musk this week concerning the company's prototype autonomous driving system, MIT researchers released a study that found that Tesla drivers are more distracted when they use the company's semi-autonomous Autopilot that is in Teslas now.

The findings support calls for the automaker to take more steps to keep drivers attentive, for their own safety, the researchers said.

Drivers needed a reliable, effective last defence against fatigue and distraction when spending long hours alone on the road
Safety is a top priority for Lindsay Transport. They are one of Australia’s largest transport companies travelling over 60 million kilometres on Australian roads to deliver more than 1.6 million tonnes of freight to over 5,000 customers each year.

Managing driver fatigue and minimising distractions is an ongoing focus for the business. One persistent concern was that once a driver left the depot, there was limited practical support available. They wanted to find a more effective way to reduce the risks of fatigue and distraction for drivers spending long hours alone on the road.

The big news, however, is the introduction of Drive Pilot (below, left) and Intelligent Parking Pilot technologies, new Level 3 and Level 4 self-driving systems that pave the road to the automaker’s autonomous future.

Initially, Drive Pilot will be available only in Germany and not until the second half of 2021, when regulatory approval is completed.

It is a Level 3 conditionally automated self-driving technology capable of monitoring the surrounding environment and performing all tasks without driver input until it actively requests that the driver take over.

When Drive Pilot requires human intervention, such as when conditions prevent it from operating properly or when upcoming roads are unsuitable for autonomous driving, it notifies the driver to retake control of the car and expects a human response within 10 seconds.

To ensure drivers remain ready to resume control, Mercedes uses an infrared camera that monitors the driver’s face and eyelids to detect sleeping, observes the driver’s position in the seat, and otherwise identifies and responds to any circumstance that might prevent a driver from retaking control of the vehicle.
