The commercial crashes grab the headlines & the costs are unbelievable. As per other transport modes camera based eye tracking will end up on every plane as part of the black box set up Iam sure in time.

If eye tracking was part of the black box, how much easier to investigate than just voice. I think the potential is mind blowing.

The thing is 97% of plane cashes in USA are non commercial. Incredibly 5 per day & 500 deaths per year.

The NTSB are keen to get tech into planes & all transport to improve safety. The last 9 months of communications with the boss & the many things sent over during that time it would be nice to see eye tracking higher up the list than just video cameras.

How to investigate accidents related to decision-making on the flight deck

A key challenge for accident investigators is to understand why pilots do what they do in accident scenarios (such as shut down the wrong engine), and why the human error is not detected and corrected by the other crew members. Due to the limited information and parameters recorded on the flight data recorder (FDR) and the ****pit voice recorder (CVR), it is not possible to analyse the pilots’ attention distributions and situation awareness that is inextricably linked with the aircraft and flight parameters. The availability of a tool to record pilots’ visual scan patterns in the flight deck would provide powerful evidence to facilitate scientific analysis of accident investigation. Since pilots’ visual behaviour plays a central role in cognitive processing, understanding when and where pilots distribute their attentions is critical to both situation awareness and safe operations.

We have the planes, maybe into the black box to make investigations possibly easier after accidents. Also if one pilot planes appear in the future.

Then you have the air traffic controllers & lastly the Sims for training.

It’s been slow but will come good in the end Iam sure.

CHENNAI: German luxury marque BMW is waiting for better clarity on the electric vehicle infrastructure and policy road map in India before taking a call on introducing electric cars from its global portfolio on Indian roads.

At the launch of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, Vikram Pahwah president BMW Group India said, "We always look at global models for India but we need to look at the policy roadmap which is not clear yet."

He said BMW would roll out 25 electric/hybrid products by 2023 globally. “Depending on the EV infrastructure and policy, we will decide on whether to bring them to India," he said.

In reality your probably spot on. Most OEMS will have 2 or even 3 suppliers for different models. The odd model could even have 2 suppliers depending on what Spec gets ordered? Some SEYE or other might win for 1st year or two & then we pop up via a Qualcomm or other.

You have versions made for Europe, USA, South America, China, some cross over and some unique to Countries or regions even. Then RHD & LHD.

Its a complicated web.

BAE Systems has also been trialing ‘psycho-physiological’ technologies, including eye-tracking, to study the operator’s physical and cognitive processes to better understand increasing exertion, stress, workload and fatigue. BAE Systems test pilots are now trialling these psycho-physiological technologies in controlled test flight conditions in a Typhoon aircraft. The results of the trials will inform further development to better understand a pilot’s cognitive behaviour and processes relating to brain activity, psychological rhythms and eye movement to inform further development.

This close partnership approach between MBDA UK and BAE Systems will allow the companies to help to collaborate at an early stage of the programme, shaping how weapons systems information and operation is optimised for the pilot.

Garmin has announced that it will be transitioning its pilot training classes to a virtual learning format through June 2021. According to the company, its instructor-led virtual training courses will be available in scheduled and on-demand sessions covering equipment including Garmin’s GTN, G1000/G1000 NXi and Aviation Weather Radar. Garmin has said it will also be taking custom training requests on a first come, first served basis.
