A proposal over a hydrogen-powered ferry service across the Bristol Channel has been discussed between council chiefs. Swansea council have had preliminary talks with their counterparts in Devon and Cornwall over the service which will connect the Welsh city and the south west of England.

Southern California's gas company SoCalGas has proposed building the largest hydrogen energy infrastructure system in the U.S. The company is the largest gas utility in the country.

The energy company will use large-scale electrolysers to produce green hydrogen which will serve as feed-stock for the production of green ammonia at a nearby facility. The clean fuel will be then exported via the port of Ain Sokhna.

The hydrogen generation facility will be initially powered by a photovoltaic plant, but Essent may also add wind power for periods when the sun is not shining. The energy company also plans to deploy some battery storage capacity at the plant for the temporary storage of the surplus of solar power that cannot be immediately converted into hydrogen or supplied back to the grid.

Plug will deliver liquid hydrogen to Walmart distribution facilities in specialized tanker trucks. Solar Energy UK said there were 7GW of 'shovel-ready' solar installations that have planning permission and authorisation to connect to the electricity grid.
