First shipment of coal June/July flexible . "Orders for many many millions of tons of coal" Possible supply of coal to a 300MW Esskom power plant in East London and 500MW on site at Elitheni. Might look to do a deal at Phase 5 for gasification or coal to diesal. The rest of the financing to be debt. Cash flow positive very soon. David Nel to be on Proactive in a few months and bringing Bertus Steenkamp and a new Elitheni Chief Financial Guy.

28/03/2012 Stocktube video - Strategic Natural Resources has “huge potential” as a coal producer Jeremy Metcalfe, Communications Director at Strategic Natural Resources (LON:SNRP), tells Proactiveinvestors that with the 50 miles of drilling that’s been undertaken along the coal seams, which represents only five percent of the property, there’s a huge potential with “about 200mln tons of coal” discovered. He’s the chap that spilled the beans (though his figures weren’t right) on the first offtake for Elithenis export coal one year ago today......... And yesterday.......His Policy Statement for 2012/2013.......I have no link as yet but will post later......We have the Gov. full support......:-) PROGRESS AND FUTURE PLANS 3.2ECONOMIC INFRASTRUCTURE 3.2.5 Third, the East London harbour is being upgraded at a cost of R2.3 billion to improve the auto logistics platform, expand container handling and provide for coal exports. 3.2.7 Fifth, Elitheni Coal has commenced mining near Indwe, approximately 240 km from the port of East London. 2.5 Metric tonnes of coal has been sold forward on the international market through off take agreements. The coal will be transported by a combination of rail and road to a staging area outside Stekstroom, where it will be packed into “skiptainers” and transported to the port. It is estimated that for every million tons of export coal produced per annum, 500 direct jobs are created. The socio economic multiplier in the logistics chain is estimated at 10.

Mr J M G Bekker (DA-WC) to ask the Minister of Public Enterprises: (1) What are the details pertaining to the (a) three rail line concessions for the Eastern Cape, (b) specific route from start to final destination, (c) capacity of each line, (d) date of commencement and (e) cost of each project; (2) whether the Sterkstroom and Maclear rail line will form part of the concession; if not, why not; if so, (a) what will the capacity of the line be, (b) when will the project be implemented, (c) what will the costs involved be, (d) what is the envisaged date of completion and (e) what are the further relevant details? http://www.parliament.gov.za/live/commonrepository/Processed/20120224/402180_1.pdf

What do we know so far? Short term funding appears to be in place with a possible interest from the S.A. Gov. IDC. A new road project between Elitheni-Indwe by the Dept. Of Transport. Minister Gigaba announces a study on the Sterkstroom-Maclear line for future concessioning. We have a MOU with a private company to have our coal delivered to the ports and to supply the wagons needed. They will truck the coal to Sterkstroom and have it loaded into containers for the rail. Phase one is already a go to load the vessels with coal by containers as it doesn’t need approvals. Phase two (Bulk loading)has been committed to by Transnet through their approval and realease of the Draft Scoping Report.

Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba

Investigation into future of Sterkstroom-maclear 08-03-2012 - A comprehensive study will be carried out and a business case developed that will determine the design, capacity and operational requirements of the Sterkstroom-Maclear branch line, Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba has told the National Council of Provinces. Replying to a written question, the Minister said that none of the three branch lines to be concessioned were in the Eastern Cape – the three lines have yet to be announced. Gigaba said the timelines for the concessioning of the Sterkstroom-Maclear branch line and cost of the project “will be informed by the par-ties involved and the outcome of the study and comprehensive business case”. http://www.getnews.co.za/story?id=1223

Eastern Cape wants larger slice of the rail budget 01-03-2012 One initiative already underway is to conduct an investigation into re-opening the line between Queenstown and Maclear. This will require not only the revitalisa-tion of stretches of the railway infrastructure – some of the lines are not even visible – and also the stations at places such as Dordrecht that have been completely vandalised. The Strategy points out that revitalising this line would mean wood from the PG Bison forestry enterprises could be transported by rail rather than road with the resulting decrease in the damage to the roads. It says that the return of the line to service will make travel easier for commuters moving between Johannesburg and the outlying areas of the former Transkei, adding that connecting Maclear with Mthatha would also “improve the quality of the lives of people in the Eastern Cape”. http://www.getnews.co.za/story?id=1158 Indwe is on that line .....:-)
