Futures trade set to help coal sector
by Monde Maoto , 01 February 2013, 10:01
"A COLLABORATION between brokerage firm London Commodity Brokers and the JSE has set its sights at establishing South Africa’s first open trade futures market, which promises to offer a solution that could allow junior coal miners to sell their thermal coal at a specified future date.
Junior coal miners often find themselves getting poor prices for their coal due to their lack of transport infrastructure.
Presenting to delegates attending the IHS McCloskey South African Coal Exports Conference, the MD of London Commodity Brokers’ Johannesburg office, Bevan Jones, said the new contract targeted the export market along with South Africa’s industrial sector, as well as benefiting Eskom."
""What we are seeing is that there is a lot of demand from India over the next five years, and the question is, do we have adequate capacity to match that demand," Ms Damasane said."
