I have to admit my only ‘research’ was from this bulletin board and with hindsight I got lucky. It could have turned out an expensive mistake. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sitting on a tidy loss as we speak but I have absolute confidence this will be positively life-changing from a personal perspective. The ‘luck’ was borne out of a handful of posters on here whom I’ve cited before. The minority are regulars, but I’ve enjoyed the experience and insights of those who post infrequently but with valuable comments (in my opinion). Hopefully, they know who they are.

I did get spooked on the first retrace down to the low thirties. The ‘trolls’ played their roles really well and I have to admit the thought about selling did cross my mind. Not because the SP fell off a cliff (relatively speaking) but because I hadn’t thought enough about the effect of a share dilution for future development. Having been ‘royally shafted’ big time by TUI when they did their last rights issue, it played on my mind. I have since come to my personal conclusion that the board will have plenty of other options available to them in terms of future funding.

The graceful comments, rational reasoning and die-hard attitude of those bulletin boards members I’ve come to respect, quickly rebuilt my confidence following my short period of doubt. I don’t agree with all comments on this BB, that’s like life in general isn’t it, but I am grateful for balanced discussion from which I learn a lot. A big thanks to all of those, including you Dustyslay, who partake even if they choose to comment only once in a blue moon.

I am here in the main because of your insights, research and commentary (along with others who have shared their thoughts and experiences, like Ageos and Dustyslay).

I posted my experience about awards and award ceremonies as a balanced insight to share with the many readers of this board that may be less familiar in how this part of the business world often operates.

I am absolutely committed to Empire and have only the most positive views on the company and the Board.

We ought to embrace others’ experience and that is what I sought to do in my post earlier today.

I don’t wish to denigrate the award we’ve received but from someone who ran an events team to go after awards (with a decent budget) here’s an ‘insiders’ take of similar events:

An insight into the award industry -

In the UK industry awards ceremonies are:

- most often a way for the award organiser to promote themselves: they are usually promoted by an industry-specific news publication

- they select a sumptuous venue, usually London, and will have 100 or more tables for 8 to 10 people: the cost of the table, usually runs into many thousands

- the organiser promotes a couple of dozen or more award catalogues with many fringe categories (a bit like the Oscars)

- they are as much a money-making exercise for the promoter (given the cost of the tables and the sponsorship opportunities on the lead-up and on the night).

In reality, an award is often only useful to the recipient from a marketing perspective. Those in the know within that specific industry really take little notice after the event.

The FCA is, and always has been, lethargic and slow to react to any issues detrimental to the ordinary (private) investor. They do ‘get there’ in the end with various ‘miss-selling’ exercises launched and successfully concluded with millions in compensation paid to ‘victims’. But they could often have acted much, much quicker when mounting evidence of ‘wrongdoing’ is presented early on in the lifecycle.

I’ve worked within their regulations since they were formed after the initial days of financial services regulation (some of you the same age as me might even remember a predecessor, FIMBRA).

I think boards like this could easily be more ‘self-regulated’ with a simple rule that is actively enforced (I hate the word, but you get the drift):

- Anyone can offer guidance: a FACT, that can be supported by evidence

- Nobody can offer advice (not even implied, even in the most subtle way): ADVICE is subjective - it’s someone’s opinion (rather than a fact).

Posting something along the line of “…this is going down to the 20s, or this will be £1 by Christmas” is all subjective. It’s an opinion and therefore steps into the realms of advice (even if that is tenuous). It’s certainly not factual and readers might be influenced by such comments, especially inexperienced private investors.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of any consultation by the FSA on bulletin boards and influencers, but I won’t be holding my breath for anything in the short to medium term.

Reports like this from the BBC are testament to why Pitfield and Empire is such a valuable resource to us as shareholders. The mining governance in Australia, the experience of the Board of Directors of Empire and the focus of the BoD on environmental and social responsibility place our investment in safe hands. Re: ‘Looking forward to some good news tomorrow’

I’m struggling to think anything significant will be disclosed tomorrow from a shareholder perspective (unless there is an RNS out at 7:00am before the session starts at 9:00am).

Perhaps we’ll get more detail on timelines and a roadmap? Happy to stand corrected tomorrow morning. Not too long to wait though and hopefully if nothing significant is disclosed we will not see the SP retrace from the nice increases we’ve experienced this week. Fingers crossed!

I’d be interested to know what defines ‘most popular’ in the context of the list.

Some of those near the top have large share buyback schemes in place this year. If the buybacks to date are included that would skew the league table. Nevertheless, it’s really good to see Empire in such esteemed company.

Yes, I find posting a challenge too with the ads preventing a smooth typing and navigating experience. My part solution has been to open an email, type my message, select all, copy and then paste it into the EEE ‘post message’ box. Works for me (in a fashion). Because of the poor forum member experience in posting, I’ve actually recently looked into using an open source code software to start an EEE forum elsewhere but not sure I have the inclination. :-)

I was surprised to see this arrive as an RNS to be honest (actually, LSE has it as an RNS-R as I type). It’s more a marketing update than a ‘price-sensitive’ piece of information (unless it’s a correction or revision of previously released data).

Nevertheless, it’s useful to know as part of our broader roadmap.

It’s a useful aide memoire and best guestimate acknowledging this is done from the outside looking in.

Dusty, I think Scott is simply stating for educational purposes for readers who are new, fairly new or haven’t dropped onto the board for a while. Not everyone has the time to trawl through days or months of posts. I too, like to be reminded from time to time. :-)
