The independance (or not) seems somewhat moot given they state their assumptions and calculations. If you feel they are being highly optimistic in any are, to get a bigger number, you can easily adjust accordingly.
Had they provided no calculations, I could see this being more of a concern.
Regardless, they suggested significant upside at the time of publishing, so can be looked at as directional rather than absolute, if one feels they are tainted
