Ohmni - the short answer to your question is that iron ore extraction is a long-term, capital intensive process and the price of iron ore is extremely volatile over extended timescales. As a result, in-situ values are a tiny percentage (historic range between 0.05% and 1%) of spot price. If I have time later on, I will make a longer post expanding on this.

I bought more ABDX today too. It is unlikely that they have no part to play in all of this.

Remember also that Wallbrook said they had been aware of the FT story since Thursday. If it had been totally wrong, ODX's 7am RNS today would have been very different.

Are you suggesting that no part of UFOs £40m market cap is based on the idea that there may be commercially realisable ore resources in Hamersley?

Let me put it another way. If the UFO announces next week that the Hamersley drilling programme has shown the company's prospects there to be valueless, do you really think there would be no impact upon the share price?

Looking at the expected news items from a potential SP impact point-of-view:

Mexico Forum - low / no probability of material news, minor plus in terms of marketing the UFO story to potential investors
Air Mag Survey - outside chance of material news from this
Mexico Drill Permits - priced in, unlikely that any potential investors are waiting on permits. Some downside if not granted
Donovan 2 commencement - priced in, won't change anything
Hamersley drill results - partially priced in, material upside potential on surprise good news (would have to be v good)
Nueva Andromeda - unknown, but unlikely to be life-changing if acquired for a song
Brockman drill permit - possible plus if drilling programme is eye-catching, but results are newsworthy not permits

A fair flow of news in Feb, but perhaps only Hamersley drill results have the potential to move the dial. Holders should modulate their medication accordingly.

To mis-use the Team Sky Cycling mantra, this period is about the accretion of marginal gains. Companies build trust with investors when they deliver on promises - both small and large. It will be helpful to UFO if all of these are ticked off and communicated in a calm and measured manner.

But this journey is only just starting. It isn’t time yet for rounds of applause and back-slapping, for the high-fives and the lap of honour.

There is a long way to go for ODX to realise its potential. But if the volumes and per-test economics discussed here are converted into reality, then ODX will quickly become highly cash generative. The SP today will be a distant history...

V unlikely that serious institutional investors would look to build a position in the open market. They will prefer to approach the company offering capital for future projects, and enter via a placing with a modest discount. Such a placing would be a big positive for all investors. You would just need to see past the wall of drivel that its announcement would provoke here....

In the longer term, ODX would benefit substantially from a less febrile register. I’m sure they’ll be looking to achieve this by on-boarding some stable investors once the prospect of dividends etc is a little closer. My hope is that we will see this in 2021.

Share price movements are extremely hard to predict, and certainty is not correlated with insight as is demonstrated here daily...

The big picture here is the emergence of the Diagnostics sector as a UK government strategic initiative. This is tremendous news for those who have - with their capital - funded these businesses in their early stages. There is significant potential for reward here.

Don't get caught up in the pointless game of chasing which of the quoted plays is "best". You will likely mistime your moves. This is not a zero-sum game or winner-takes-it-all scenario. All of the companies involved in the development and manufacture of LFT's (& other tests/platforms in time) are seeing their prospects enhanced here. Investors with positions in these companies need only hold.

The notion that the FT article is a “full attack” on a specific set of retail investors is just nonsense...

This is my interpretation too. As we know from the endless (but valid!) posts here about IP etc, ODX are a narrower part of the value chain. I expect them to do well, and the shareholders who have provided risk capital will be properly rewarded for this.

I also expect AVCT to do well. As I posted on another thread earlier, this is not a zero-sum or winner-takes-all game. The strategic value of a domestic diagnostics industry has been explicitly recognised. There is room for several winners.
