I don't see the different. You keep a profit and loss account. No different from taking profit and buying back. You just keep records

No taken up front. Not carried forward. If you were an accountant and didn't make a provision for a potential loss you wouldn't be doing your job correctly. Don't see how there brushed under the carpet, quite the opposite.

Your never going to get it. I'm old motor trade. So if you have a car that stands you wrong it will aways stand you wrong unless you right it down to the correct value. 1 makes it easier to sell ( stood right) 2. Any losses taken now.( not carried forward ) We just think differently :-))

To get the average i now have i would have to have purchased a lot more shares. Hence more risk. This way lower average and no more skin in the game. Less risk and less gain if it goes well. I like to balance the books and take any hits up front if i can

I sold at 1.83 repurchased at 1.83 was hoping to get back in at less. Took the grand hit up front.

Took your advice today rather than try to average down sold the lot and repurchased at the lower price. Cost me £16 but much lower average and less risk. Hit taken up front not carrying a loss forward. Cheers
