Investing requires planning and decision making. To do this one needs to have a grasp of where one sees the future but just recently this has become almost impossible. Despite ever better communications the world seems to be more and more divided. in the late 1800's and 1900 the world suffered a series of catastrophic wars enabled by industrialisation. Now we look to be heading towards more caused by technology. If you allow morons and lunatics to take charge of governments then history will repeat itself. Trump is only one moron but there are lots more waiting in the wings. Are there any Tories not running for leader... And they cannot see nobody really cares..All they want is a peaceful life...

I watch the ships coming and going from the port of Felixstowe. There has been a marked slowdown in the last month. At our weekly meeting of the old farts club everyone is expecting a downturn and not one person could see a way out. The only one smiling has been diagnosed with the onset of early dementia...After a recovery of my investments yesterday everything now is heading south again. What fun..

Owning companies is the question. When you are owned by the men in the cupboard you lose control. Only once for me did this happen and I managed to escape their clutches. They become very very friendly when you do not need them. I manged to build the forth largest company in my field and it paid its over heads for the year by the end of April. Like January though I realised there was more to life than working so I sold out and have been idle ever since...

I am amazed that minds are beginning to think dividends. I have never found dividends to be a tempter to invest although I have some shares that pay regularly every three months. These I no longer watch the daily sp. Here the money earned should pay down debt for some considerable time. New acquisitions is another matter but they need to be good ones with fairly short routes to profitability. Few shareholders here are showing any form a gain and even having day traded some I remain under water. My accountant said losses require careful management and strict control while profits are fun. Owning a company and its assets instead of leasing and borrowing allowed me to ride out a hugely damaging strike and when it ended all my rivals were skint..

Must admit it has proved quite a week. I fully expected the update to raise the sp but hedged some shares at 23p which proved correct but it was not skill. Just luck. I do not believe some of the stats coming out of the US. It is just a value judgement but truthfully nearly all I read is based on the same. I have not replaced my sale yet because I do not feel pressured to do so. Instead I am happy to stick to cash and await the occasional titbit to pop up. I sold some from my trading account but I have lots in my holding account. I have not re filled the trading account though yet as I remain undecided on whether to treat myself to something new!! Saga looks quite a good train wreck...

At least we are still doing better today than Royal Mail. I thought we would rise today on news but one can be so wrong. It is all about events. Trying to predict the future is becoming harder by the day.. Just have to wait for the next update now...

One the 16.5 I bought a load at 20.41 and sold them yesterday at 23.01 and the money is sitting in the trading account. Now can I buy back today and trouser the difference or
will there be a sudden spike.... The day trader is still in the blood but am fighting the urge...

This is yet another government bungle. My father worked all his life for the 'ROYAL MAIL'. He did not work shifts but duties. He started as a telegram boy on a BSA Bantam and retired at 60 on a superb pension and gratuity. During his working life though he was not well paid. He had pride though in is work. Then some idiot thought they should privatise it and make a quick few quid. Now look at at it. Demitri delivers the parcels in a white van. He works 15 hours a day, has no sickness pay and no pension. Now the rump cannot even afford to replace the vans and all the workers with any experience are applying to retire as quick as they can. This is going to be another British Steel... Our politicians are dross
