I am sure quite a few forecasts existed on the Eta of the Titanic in New York but all proved wrong. I have read the article in The Times today and I have spent this week attempting to make sense of where we are currently are and where we are going. Not just for North Sea Oil but for the economy as a whole. House prices we are led to believe are. Unemployment is rising, the High St is becoming a ghost town and yet the roads are once more gridlocked and I can physically see more ships arriving laden with containers. Marine traffic shows a large increase in ships passing through the Channel.
What I am really struggling on is why the companies that offer floating petri dish holidays have recovered. Most remain at anchor. The automotive industry, airlines and hospitality are just languishing in the doldrums. All those I have spoken to say they are spending less and saving more because their social life has become non existent. No more theatre, no more concerts and even the swinger club has resorted to male order... For me nothing really makes sense any more. At a time when the world needs leaders few inspire and some even frighten me. So this weekend it is time to ponder..Time to take a afternoon nap..
