Chessgambiteer is posting absolute rubbish, and is confusing several different issues.

1. it is still perfectly legal for UK brokers, banks etc to deal in EUA shares and derivatives (e.g. CFDs, s/bets etc) if they wish to … EUA shares are still listed here, and trading frequently.

some individual brokers/banks etc may make their own in-house decisions not to deal in EUA, or only to deal in very restricted ways, because of their own internal views about credit and reputational risks, and to avoid getting stuck with positions they or their clients can’t unwind if sanctions regimes in UK or russia become even more punitive.

Nonsense. there no sanctions of any kind in place that would stop any russian individual or entity from buying and selling GBP.

sanctions affect some individuals & entities from moving or holding funds across certain jurisdictions, but there no sanctions at all, none, zero, nada, to stop e.g. a russian hnwi in moscow or astana from freely buying or selling GBP against other currencies.

The AIX listing has already happened and is already in place, with zippo action from that. any ruskie oligarchs or ruskie hnwi who thought EUA was a likely multibagger has already had lots of time to buy into the GBP denominated shares, but they have not. folks like that are perfectly familiar with operating in a range of FX and in varied jurisdictions.

17:41, it is a bit rich for gecko to be critical of someone else for being an over emotional flip-flopper, given his own track record.

And not to forget, being in the main market is not a guarantee of quality .. in particular, many pis involved in WRN didn’t seem to understand the significant differences between premium vs standard listings, with the latter subject to much weaker corporate governance and oversight. (… actually, lower requirements for the standard main that WRN used to have, compared with AIM shares!)

it’s a distinction that’s been and gone now, since a single category was introduced in 2024. but the key point which generalises is that pis sought false reassurance from a phrase about the listing that sounded nice, rather than actually looking at the small print (i.e. about what main market standard listing meant).

Strange, my polite, on topic post stating that i advise gecko to buy loads and loads more EUA shares was deleted. someone seems overly ticklish.

Jatw, if you don’t mind me asking, what tech are you currently favouring? i am a little underweight currently in that sector, and rather stuck um and ah-ing what do about that, or not. … financials and healthcare/pharma, i have plenty already.

( also curious re your current view on chinese-focused equity, i.e. as a question about geography more broadly rather than any particular sector.)
