Cheesy, I said a while ago that there’s v little to say anymore about EUA, now that they’ve abandoned the pretence of actually mining and clearly cannot sell anything.

but i am happy to join in the occasional chat about putin’s genocidal regime, which underscores how utterly uninvestable Russia is.

… the Russian experience in Afghanistan helps to illustrate :

1. the incredible levels of appalling civilian suffering that come from foreign invasions aiming at conquest and occupation.

2. militarily, it is always much tougher and more expensive to invade and attack rather than defend home soil.

3. maintaining an aggressive and unwanted occupation is very hard and expensive, because as the years go by asymmetric resistance by the occupied people can kill and maim the invaders in huge numbers fairly cheaply, and it’s hard for foreign invaders to maintain morale and long term home political will and support as the assassination and sabotage toll mounts.

? Presumably you do also understand that your 2 million dead figure isn’t about Afghan combatants?

… that’s an estimate of how many Afghan ** civilians ** were slaughtered over a decade of mass murder by your mates, the Russians.

…. a rather better reflection of Russian military effectiveness comes from looking at the figures for (Russian squaddies dead) plus (Afghan puppet government military dead), versus (mujahideen fighter dead).

The whole saga has been an absolute disaster for afghans. but it was absolutely also a humiliating and stunningly expensive disaster for a nuclear armed ‘superpower’ with a large supposedly technologically advanced military with whopping air cover.

Cheesy has gone really strange. he started off on EUA just as a fairly typical rampy trader who had got stuck with a position and so was trying to talk up his book. but as time has gone on he’s drifted a long way from that into a full on rabid pro-putin nutter.

Russia had to listen to the Afghan resistance in the end, even though supposed superpower Russia had ‘won’ in their invasion of that desperately poor country.

hopefully the ukrainians are already preparing and planning for a decade or two of guerilla activity in the Russian occupied parts which will kill many, many Russians and collaborators for years to come and hopefully continue to damage the russkie economy further.

And hopefully nobody who has taken a stolen Ukrainian child will rest easy in their beds for many years to come, since they will be hunted.

Hi dietch, thanks for the sensible exchange. nothing much to add re puntercat, except to note that i have never said the EUA BoD are liars … that’s just another one of his fibs/fantasies.

i do think that the company are very careful in their wordings sometimes, which makes it easy for some over-optimistic pis to read in what they want to see, and absolutely there have been plenty of rampers on various fora who have lied through their teeth about EUA, over and over again.

Hi dietch ….big issue on MT, they have not been transparent yet on the *cost* side of things; stuff in the ground doesn’t pay the bills … it’s what you can get out, process and sell economically.

as to why they have not published detailed cost data, well, we can each have our own theories.

(related issue on MT, the length of licence left is not impressive at this point, re time remaining for payback … presumably they could probably purchase a licence extension, but they would have to pay up for that.)

re russia as a place for western investment … a question would be, not simply when some kind of ‘ceasefire’ comes in ukraine, but what people think putin would then do *after* that … ? would he become a peaceable old buffer in his final years, content to stick with Russia’s domain and borders as they are, tending roses in the kremlin gardens, or would he gear up to grab some of the baltics next? … if there’s a settlement in ukraine, but then putin tries to take estonia / latvia / lithuania, any europeans with russkie-focused share certificates might as well tear them up to use for toilet paper at that point.

(My guess is, he’s a tool of richie jennings.)
