I think the fact that Starmer will go (sooner or later) is already priced into the market. As is Burnham for PM. Will Burnham have complete policy shift? Probably not. It will be more of how can we tax working people so that we can give more to non working people.

Well once again BP appears to have employed a wrong un. That said, will Manifold be heading off into the sunset with a squillion quid in his back pocket like Looney did? Answer, no. It appears that maybe it was a lack of due diligence on BPs part, however, the fundamentals of the company have not changed since yesterday and the price of Brent is still roughly $100 pb. And with no other major shocks to affect the share price ( not to my knowledge anyway) I have just topped up a few hundred. Would I sell the farm to by more shares? No. But seeing the share price fall by that much is clearly a buying opportunity in my opinion. Let’s not forget that we have a new sheriff in town and she’s barely started work. Time is your friend. So the US closed the SOH but Iran also closed the SOH. But with this latest memorandum of understanding it means that the SOH will open ( while talks progress). I agree about the over reaction of the markets as any long term investor will know, this is very common. I read the article released by IMP and I didn’t see anything of note that wasn’t already known. I topped up a small amount although I didn’t quite catch the bottom of today’s fall (so far). The solid dividend still appeals to me.

Iran is in no hurry to secure a deal with the US, in fact it’s pretty much the reverse. This war against Iran has achieved very little except highlighting the fact that the straights are a global choke point that can be controlled by one nation. Public opinion in the US divided about the objectives that have or have not been achieved. Trump will tell anybody that wants to listen that they have knocked out Irans nuclear capability, they haven’t. Trump said that last June as well after the attack on Irans underground bunkers. Gas prices remain elevated in the US and that resonates with voters immensely. People in the US talk about gas prices like people in the UK talk about the weather. Higher oil prices will keep gas prices elevated and it will eventually feed through to higher inflation. And with the mid term elections looming, Trump needs to turn things around and fast. It doesn’t matter who you voted for, when you get hit in the pocket, you have a different mindset. James Carville was right “It’s the economy stupid”.

The 19th package of sanctions recently imposed by the EU and adopted by the UK forbids any refined oil products coming from India and being sold in the EU/UK. Therefore cutting off that particular avoidance route. Unsure how this will affect the oil price if at all, but it will be a blow to Russian oil exports for sure. According to oil price.com, Indian buyers are already looking for other sources and that’s before any (possible secondary sanctions) from Trump.

This is a classic buy the dip situation. Results were ok, they were never gonna shoot the lights out. 4.5% rise in the dividend. Apart from the CEO retiring who was clearly a safe pair of hands. I would definitely increase my holding if I had spare funds. Which I haven’t.
