Too much money, shares paid to underachieving leadership for starters, when was the last time a CEO made a positive significant impact which justified their obscene remuneration package? There is little motivation for a CEO to do well as they will be paid massively regardless. Personal pride and career prospects could possibly be motivation but depending where they are in their career, RR looks to be a nice little pre-retirement easy money job.
RR has also swayed more to the financial side of leadership and away from the traditional engineering leaders, engineering only caused financial issues and financial only caused engineering issues, this tells me it's pretty obvious a balance between the two should have been implemented a long time ago and the company is still dealing with issues as a result of those past failings.
Another issue for RR is the reliance on large civil engines and although Covid could not be foreseen, they should have filled the V2500 gap with another mid-size engine when they sold their share.
