Once art 50 was called in March 2017 we had 2 years for a WA which would have taken us up to March 2019, remainers did delay leaving the EU by 10 months but the original plan was to stay in transition till Dec 2021 so we could negotiate exciting new trade deals.
The big one with U.S which would have applied pressure on the E.U didn't happen,so we are leaving into a bit of a void,no way can you blame remainers for this one.

So far on the trade side all the deals have been roll over with the exception of Japan which had minor alterations.The big one we are all hoping for is the U.S which if successful will account for 22% but of course we have lost 43% with the EU in the process.
So from what your saying by leaving the EU customs area we will avoid the EU red tape and cut our industries free, overtaking Germany and joining the top 3 countries in the world,America,China,Japan.
Interesting thought,what British owned industries did you have in mind?
As for subservient and remembering it's a collective with veto which of any of the EU countries would agree to be governed by and be subservient to another country?and at the same time giving away their natural resources.

No wonder the markets/Lloyds SP are jittery,most normal countries take small steps in adjusting their trading activities however if the UK is prepared to pay enough (a lot more than Switzerland) then you might be able to maintain sovereignty and some free trade.

Interest rates and inward investments would have been higher and i would have thought Theresa May would have locked down earlier in line with the rest of Europe.
Trump gave us no special deals and with the election of Biden we would have been on the right side of history.

It's looking like a Trump/Boris confrontational approach to Europe isn't working out this time.
I do wonder why they went down this road with long standing partners of 45 years,lets hope Scotland is treated with greater respect.

Boris needs a deal which will be enough to persuade a few percentage of Scots (the gullible) to believe our union will be better than the EU's.
No deal will lead to a SNP landslide in May and referendum in 2022.

we have eliminated labour issues from the economy,they will work for peanuts and you can hire/fire by text so i'm afraid to say the problem lies within our leaders.
All we had to do for the last 40 years was to copy the Germans,would that have been too difficult.

Why did we join the common market in the first place then.
Because we thought we could compete with them on a level playing field,yet after years of Thatcherism,demolishing organised labour our system failed.
Brits don't invest in the UK and with less Chinese,a Middle East without oil revenue and no platform for access to Europe i struggle to think where this investment will come from,perhaps the Indian subcontinent.

It only goes to prove how desperately this country needs a vaccine to get us out of the current economic mess,care of Boris dithering a week in March.

I think Sunak keeps forgetting about the 3 million self employed/freelance who fall through the system.In any normal economy this additional 8% of the work force would be registered as unemployed.
Our employment market is unique by developed country standards and ignoring those who fall off the radar runs the risk of not fully accounting for the seriousness of the situation we are in.
