You could put up visa costs to £300 but that would only put off the 99.75% of genuine visitors and those wishing to over stay would accept it as a reasonable one off cost.

Gwyn,may i suggest Lloyds platinum.Holiday insurance,AA and some other covers,never had to use it but £18 a month or there abouts.Try phoning the NHS help line it's free from Europe they might be able to help otherwise as long as my arms are not falling off i tend to avoid Doctors must have saved the NHS thousands plus the've had all me fag money.

EU citizens use NHS facilities on a knock for knock basis and others could be forced to have health insurance but you couldn't refuse to treat people.
The governments responsibility is to supply sufficent facilities to meet demand,this seems to have failed in some areas.

At 17mtrs a day its going to take almost 6 yrs to build a 37km tunnel.
I see from the map of Woodsmith mine they are 3 miles from a railway line.Either build a rail head or a sloped shaft to exsisting rail line.2.66m tonnes works out at 7000 tonnes a day,3 rail runs could shift that to Teeside per day and you would have a 2nd route for "just in case" plus some revenue before completion of main tunnel.

In the short term its good news but for the oil support industry we need more demand for oil.With oil price at plus $76 a barrel and a high dollar then demand will fall.

These high oil prices will only accelerate change to alternatives which didn't exsist in previous high oil events.What would be the point of an oil company making capital expense if it can supply the lower demand from exsisting resource's in a shrinking market.
To price out change of oil use we need a price in the mid/high fifties,this would snuff out technological advances of alternatives or at least slow their progress and you have more inertia as people are less likely to change .
Depends how long you intend to stay in oil but i see current levels good for oil extraction companies not so good for oil support.IMHO

Until i get a clearer picture of how the UK economy will emerge i'm not prepared to change tactics,although Raab did seem less pressured at joint news conference and the worse must be behind us with May safely home after her dancing between possible trade deals.
