The reality is when you have proportion representation only 11-12% of the population in a country which took a million Syrian immigrants in a year voted for an anti immigration/nationalist party.
18% of the population put saving the planet as their main priority-The Greens.
I personally would find a million immigrants in a year a hard figure to swallow but you can't argue with this result.

With 53yrs left till total depletion why go to the cliff edge,when we could develop the technology required to replace it.
Labour stated they would increase wind generation 7 fold,that would take us to 148GW peak,way beyond current UK requirements.
France has to replace their nuclear stations at £100 plus per mwh and are currently struggling to complete projects while our latest wind generators at £57mwh would supply the cheapest electricity in Western Europe.

JMO your history lesson a couple of days ago proved nothing.What history did teach us is when America dropped 2 nuclear bombs on civilian targets to break their will,even what we thought was the most insane regime at the time capitulated.Since then no one has attempted a repeat because the destruction is appauling.Both super powers have had plenty of opportunities but decided to stick with conventional.
If we are faced with a truly insane opponent then any deterrent will not work and defence is your only option.Deterrents can be limited and proportional.

The risk is higher today as nuclear weapons have proliferated and with a greater chance of an exercise becoming too real and hacking.Like guns in circulation the more you have the more chance of negligent discharge.

Auson,i was referring to UK coal reserve's as being worthless.150yrs of reserves will stay in the ground for us.
Big oil knows that we have 53yrs left.Oil will end before then and Trump has done us a favour..

Auson,visited Texas back a few years and even the locals knew of the reserves in the West Texan basin.They deemed them as a strategic reserve in those days.
America knows the oil age will end as much as the stone age,so better in the little time left to get the bulk of it out the ground and leave Venezuela,Iran,Iraq to sit on worthless assets.By the time those countries get it out the ground either enviromental legislation or lower cost of renewables will make them uneconomic to retrieve .
Very similar to our situation with coal.Still sitting on 150 years of reserves and absolutely worthless but our situation was due to market forces and not sanctions.

That's one silver lining to Trump.Higher oil prices which will lead to a faster take up of renewable energy.

Would a nuclear deterrent deter a nutter?Deterrents work with sane people and total annihilation wouldn't be necessary.Enough for half of Moscow would do the trick.
Spend the money on laser defence and become a world leader.It's about time Britain had a major technological breakthrough,might improve the trade balance.

But JMO thats what it's all about.Not bowing to anyone,to become a truly independent country,standing on our own two feet,our own foreign policy like it was before the WW2.

Nuclear subs are a bit old fashioned and expensive.Spend the money on laser research and create a truly defence system.Keep a small stock of nuclear cruise for offensive operations and step down from the world stage.

I think someone mentioned Lloyds yesterday,ha.
It has been a long tunnel for Lloyds but do feel we are getting closer to the end.With most journeys i find there's always a final twist and i think Scotland has emerged as that twist.
Sturgeons EU visits in 2017 were part of this plan.The EU know the weakest link to the UK is it's parts.NI first then Scotland.Both place pressure on the UK government to agree to any deal.The EU have done their homework,full marks to them.
So all have been patient with Lloyds whether in or out.We get this final twist out the way and some kind of deal(even if the whole thing is kicked down the road) which will lead to a stable Pound.Hammond and co reckon a £20billion Brexit bounce and Carney's goal of raising interest rates becomes more likely.Not only will Lloyds like it but some of those other British companies with large pension deficits wanting bond yields to continue up.
