Started this rant on lloyds?
Tesco are doing the right thing in not building any further store apart from trialing a few Jacks. They are everywhere already. What could be improved is the retail model, look at what the discounters do and do it better.
Tesco's are brilliant at food, price on essentials are equal or below discounters.Tesco needs to dispel this myth that discounters are cheaper-advertise aggressively.
The in-shop experience could be improved.Human nature makes us inquisitive for a good deal.I do go to Lidl but the attraction is the centre aisle of discounted hardware which changes every 2 weeks. Can't help it,usually buy a few food items even if nothing on the centre aisle grabs my attention.Tesco's could buy and sell these items at better discount with it's purchasing strength and never under estimate the power of the word,it gets around.
A limited number of essential hardware fine but put the rest online where it belongs,18% of that stuff is online, food lags behind with 5.5%.
I was wrong with Aldi saturation with 65 new stores a year we haven't reached peak.Could add that Co-op are building another 100 this year.
I'm sure Dave is concerned with discounters however the biggest industry change must be Sainsbury/Asda merger and how many stores will be surplus.
