Wiseman, I would comment on a couple of issues. First of all it doesn't have to be a takeover it could simply be a strategic alliance with a shared plan and a pooling of resources. Secondly you are right if we were taken over it would be most likely at a price that did not represent the future earning potential of the asset. However depending on who it was there may well be an opportunity to take on paper rather cash or buy the new companies shares and thereby staying in the game(if you really want to!!).
Wiseman,
1 You have answered your own question on diversification and I agree focus must be the name of the game
2 Like you I see the fact that the debts and MNR treatment are common to all the Oilers as a potential source of powerful bargaining power. What would be the response if they all threatened to stop production?
3 With the GKP Board so useless and seemingly powerless I have long thought the way forward is a strategic alliance with one of the other players(of course better still a takeover). Without something like that I see no hope of the many outstanding issues being resolved.
Now is the perfect time for all our Directors, who have taken so much from the company and given so little back, to buy a decent holding of shares and start to rebuild some confidence.
But then I am forgetting that if they did their action would be in the interest of us the shareholders so dont hold your breath.
A properly functioning Board would shed light into the dark areas like the PSC update, the FDR, the whole payments issue past and present(more than the platitudes in the results and outlook).More than the CEO I want to see the Chairman go.Since he came nothing has gone well - bad luck?,adverse circumstances?,incompetence? Probably all three but either way we need change and,Put Up, as I have said before steady as she goes should not be an option.
Do you think the silence of the Board on the key unresolved issues is down to pure arrogance and a disinterest in the smaller shareholder or more frightenly is the true picture too black to report? Either way we have a vacuum contributing to a downward share price and it is time our Board got off their backsides, well fattened by our money, to say something. We could at least then make a judgement about our investment.
Sarcasm ****eye - the worst sort of wit so deserving of this wretched BOD
So our Board emerge briefly from their bunker to give us news that leaves out more than it presents. They must be pleased with the ringing endorsement from the market but now no doubt it is back to the bunker with blinkers firmly on.Erhhh
I dont know how I missed it.Of course with covid around our Board are currently social isolating in their bunker. When they emerge what can we expect - a Board getting ahead of the game instead of trailing well behind it? ,a Board with an effective communications policy?,a Board resolving the vital isssues like the PSC, FDP and outstanding payments? What's your guess?
Where are you? We need some of your optimism right now.
Where is our Chairman? Where is our CEO? Where is our Board? Where is our PR? No wonder the price continues to drift lower. Erhhhh
As private investors we have no voting power to change anything here but it would would be interesting to know how many pis would support a vote of no confidence in the board. I think the result would be a huge majority. Our blinkered, bunkered board would ignore it but it might give further encouragement to the institutional holders to ensure the company takes on a programme for much needed and radical change. Steady as she goes is not an option here.
Au contraire Singer, been in and out of this share for years. Went to Paris and like most was taken in by JF. So not worried about the horse bolting just wether it is already dead and the flogging doing no good.
Is there any truth in the rumour that Chris Grayling is in line for the top job and if so could he possibly do a worse job than the current incumbment and his not so merry men on the board?
I am getting a very uneasy feeling about this share. Where is our Board to reassure us in these difficult times? They are usually so good at communicating and bolstering confidence.
Perhaps our Chairman should take the job considering the huge contribution he has made although I do hope he has a prior commitment - with the oubliette!
Theoryman - thank you for your analysis which looks sound to me. The only trouble is this share is beset with so many variables that it is in fact impossible to even hazard a guess at its profit or valuation potential. With a Board buried in its bunker and giving nil info to assess those variables or any support to the share price, anyone holding or thinking of trading the shares are doing nothing more than taking a blind gamble.
Will this change? It is taking longer than I thought but the main hope must be the departure of the Chairman and most of the Board followed by a clean start to running the company and its interaction with the market in a different way to its current disasterous fashion.
Owen, he said the same in Paris.Anyway he is going. We now need a thorough Board clear out starting and crucially with the Chairman(or cant they find him in the bunker he has built??).
The fur will soon be flying I hope
Is the current management doing a good job? Do we want a steady as she goes approach? How can we attract the necessary talent and agent for change if the failed Chairman and Board remain unchanged?
We need a strong independent CEO with a clear road to take the company forward and will only get this if there are further changes at the top in the near future.
As well as "bad Luck" with CEOs we have also had "bad luck " with Chairmen. If Japp stays we might as well have another well meaning but ineffective CEO with engineering knowledge. If Japp goes we should appoint the opposite.
The company went backwards in every area of management when the current Chairman came in. The new CEO will have no chance unless the Chairman leaves before his appointment. Time's up Japp or it's the continuation of the doldrums.
