WORLD GOLD COUNCIL www.gold.org PRESS RELEASE 20 May, 2008 GOLD DEMAND HITS Second-highest quarterly value on record in q1 2008 - BUT record prices LEAD TO VOLUME DECLINE With financial markets still reeling from the global credit squeeze, and growing inflationary pressures dollar demand for gold reached US $20.9bn in the first quarter of 2008, a 20% increase over the same period in 2007 and more than double the level of four years earlier. However, tonnage demand for gold at 701 tonnes was down 16% on the same period last year and represents the lowest quarterly figure for five years, according to Gold Demand Trends, which is released today by World Gold Council (WGC). This fall was caused primarily by the sharp rise and unusually high volatility in the gold price, which briefly touched record levels above $1,000/oz in mid-March. The data, compiled independently for WGC by GFMS Ltd, show that the impact of these factors hit home particularly hard in the 'physical buying' markets of gold jewellery and coins and bars. Jewellery demand declined 21% year-on-year to 445.4 tonnes, the lowest quarterly level since the early 1990s. Net retail investment demand dropped by 35% to 72.7 tonnes in Q1. Azzurri I think you could be right....just topped up by 50,000 today (10-4-08) and it's been recorded as a sell! !!! Perhaps thats why no movement, with the big buys cos they got ithe facts wrong! I'm now into this one big time (for me) after todays mini top up n I hope to pay off a chunk of the mortgage with the proceeds. I better add a few stones to those put on with the soup once the deserts hit the stores.....
Once the tv show starts these should hopefully fly, not many buyers in a sea of red tho.... hopefully that will all change.
You don't really think my comment was in relation to your last post do you? LOL, presumptious or what! PS I'm really quite happy on my little fence, but I'm glad for your informative posts today, keep em coming....
and I reckon legalcat is right and I for one will be joining Davius staying on the fence for now, to see if dead cats really bounce.............. before expiring!!
Are you guys still in this one or am I the lone fan? Watched this one shoot up big bucks in a day a couple of years ago, would be nice if it happened again! May make up for the SOLG fiasco I shelled out on last week and have since taken a massive hit on.
Wow! What a day thursday, glad I overslept when I was gonna dive in, god, if I had, I'd probably be totally grey now, never mind just turnin!!!! Spent my dosh on Tecteon early am, but I may try a T20 on JSG. Anyone any thoughts on where JSG are off?
Equally tempted and may dive in tomorrow AM, I've a feeling this one has a little bit more to drop, but then again, even at current price it looks like a sound buy for a fairly long hold....
Can't understand the share price of this one, on rns announcements it looks a brilliant buy but the share price keeps dropping. Any ideas anyone?
I've still not bought into this one but watching share price carefully. It all sounds ominous that they are in 'constructive dialogue with bankers'.... I've heard that one before!
