RE: 'Kneading' the Dough!6 Dec 2020 17:28
Good afternoon folks. I didn't create Centamin - I just explained how the Soviet geochem anomalies aligned with a number of transform faults and how virtually all the significant historical gold occurrences lay along these structural lines (classic 'hot jogs' and 'cold jogs'). A couple of guys at the survey were the ones who set Centamin up along with pricate sector backing.
The Eastern Desert is also where the Phaoronic gold came from for the Valley of the Kings, Luxor, etc. You can still find hieroglyphs on the rock faces of their stone quarries.
Crucially none of the Egyptian geo's were geochemists so to them the maps (in Russian) were just gogbbledygook. In reality Russian geochem and geology maps are not difficult to understand.
Why don't I volunteer? Well - I've worked the last 11 years continuously in Africa but have now pretty much retired. If I was single I'd probably still go over there on contract - but family responsibilities and all that!
Africa has been so interesting and fun. I worked on projects in Gabon, Uganda, Rwanda, DRC, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa. The Bantu are very easy to get on with most of the time - government officials and the police less so as they often see $ signs! Snakes, scorpions and bees are the main hazards, large mammals and other things with big teeth less so unless you are in National Parks, GMA's or rivers . Camping in the middle of nowhere, countless hours of dirt roads, chilled African beer and sitting around a camp fire chatting with your field team - priceless!
All the best to you all!
