INSIDE LEG: Apple the pick of the gossip as ARM shares rise 21 April, 2010 08:21:29 AM The talk in the City wine bars is of a bid for chip designer ARM Holdings, a new entrant to the FTSE 100, by the ubiquitous tech giant Apple. We think this one has legs. The sourcing from our point of view is very good. So we say watch this space.

Everyone v fearful of the fickle Yanks today... coming back up a tad now though...
MADRID (MarketWatch) -- Allied Irish Bank /quotes/comstock/13*!aib/quotes/nls/aib (AIB 3.96, -0.16, -3.88%) /quotes/comstock/23s!e:albk (UK:ALBK 1.52, +0.12, +8.45%) was upgraded to buy from neutral on Wednesday at Goldman Sachs, which said there is increased visibility on a path to recovery. The investment bank said AIB has improved clarity on its capital shortfall, which cuts key tail risk in the restructuring process of Irish banks. "We believe that both AIB and Bank of Ireland /quotes/comstock/23s!e:bkir (UK:BKIR 1.69, +0.05, +2.88%) will ultimately emerge as smaller, yet more focused financial institutions. While the entire process could take the next couple of years, its foundations will be laid within months," said Goldman analysts. Goldman reiterated its buy rating on BOI and said approval of state aid by the European Union and the subsequent capital increase will be BOI's key short-term catalysts. AIB's share price will likely be driven by news flow on asset disposals, further loan transfers to the National Asset Management Agency, the expected EC ruling on state aid and progress on the capital increase, said Goldman. The latter presents the biggest risk for shares.

INSIDE LEG: So is Petrobras the Wellstream predator? 31 March, 2010 08:22:12 AM Lot of action in this stock recently. Some very savvy buyers in there. Certain days volumes have been through the roof. So what is the truth? Well, according to Bloomberg, Petrobras is considering selling international assets to help fund the development of the country's offshore reserves. "We are reassessing our international portfolio," Rogerio Mattos, the company's executive manager for new businesses, is quoted as saying in an interview in Rio de Janeiro today, adding that "We will carry out an evaluation of the assets we can sell."
