Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has confirmed that Day 2 PCR tests for double-jabbed travellers arriving in England are to be replaced by lateral flow tests. He's aiming to bring in the change for the autumn half-term break. It follows an earlier change to testing on October 4.
Grant Shapps said that under the latest change coming in, travellers returning to the UK could be "done and dusted" with organising testing before they even get home, with lateral flows set to be available at airports. He said the goal is to have made the switch from PCR testing to quicker and cheaper lateral flows by half-term.
Asked if he was referring to English schools' half-terms around October 22, he told Times Radio: "Yes, that's right, 22nd of October. That's the goal and, as I say, the testing companies are gearing up to do that.
Passengers will be able to send a picture of their lateral flow test as a minimum requirement to verify the result.
This means holidays abroad will be simpler and cheaper for many, consumer watchdog Which reported.

11:16, Tuesday 22 June 2021 - Alan McGuinness, political reporter: Quarantine-free travel to amber list countries for people who have been fully vaccinated is "absolutely something" the government is "working on", the health secretary has told Sky News.
"This hasn't been clinically advised yet, we're working on it," MH said about the move, which would see the current 10-day isolation replaced by daily COVID-19 testing.

Again focus on the facts ..
Health Secretary M H said:
Rapid lateral flow tests are essential to help us identify cases of the virus we otherwise wouldn’t find and preventing the virus spreading in our workplaces and communities.
These tests will help keep businesses open, our children return to school, people to visit their loved ones in care homes safely.
British innovation is at the forefront of our response to this pandemic and this partnership with 2 Great British firms will help us to build back better by tapping into the UK’s domestic talent, ingenuity and industry.
Lord Bethell, Minister for Health, said:
The UK continues to lead the way in medical diagnostics, and we are working with companies such as Omega and Global Access Diagnostics to build on our expertise in the field. The whole industry has come together to respond to COVID-19 and get us back to the people and things we love, helping us stop the spread of the virus now while strengthening our resilience for the future.
Omega and Global Access Diagnostics will have the capacity to produce approximately 2 million tests per week each by the end of May, helping scale up the government’s rapid lateral flow testing programme across the country.
