Today is yet another day where there has been far more buyers than sellers in recent weeks this has happened a great deal.Surely the market makers must be short of stock.

It looks to me that Ramsdens is following the same pattern as H&T whose shares rose both before and after their last set of results. I would not be surprised if Ramsdens shares hit 230p when the results are announced next tuesday.

I followed your advice and invested in further shares in three deals today sadly I did not get the best price but against that it was not the worst as well.

How did you decide on your name? Thanks for your input re the special dividend. I have only been a shareholder in this company for less than ten months so my historical knowledge is very limited. I also would prefer two dividend payments during the year because I have a large shareholding in this company and it is my main source of income followed by Ramsdens holdings the pawnbrokers.

I wrote to the company last week regarding future dividend payments. I asked if the company would consider making two dividend payments each year as a matter of policy. At the moment there is no certainty if there will be a payment in April as both previous dividend payments in April have been termed special dividend payments not interim dividend payments. I heard back today from the assistant company secretary who told me that she could not tell me what the dividend policy is likely to be in the future because such information is price sensitive and must be released to the market for everybody to see at the same time. I was by the way not expecting to be told in advance of other shareholders what their policy is likely to be. She told me however that my views regarding shareholders requiring some clarity regarding future dividend policy would be discussed by the board when they next meet. I asked if they would consider an interim payment in April being one third of the full year payment and the final dividend in December being two thirds of the full year payment. At present the special dividend is being ignored when the company's yield is published so the yield is being shown as about 7.4% when its closer to 9.4% when the special dividend is included in the calculations. As a matter of interest do most posters on this board consider it to be likely that a further dividend will be paid in April. I believe that its likely there will once again be a dividend payment made in April.

A friend gave me a newspaper article which I have decided to post on this board. The batteries in an electric car weigh about 500 kg. To make a car battery of this type,you need to process 10 tonnes of salt for the required lithium, 15 tonnes of ore for the required cobalt,two tonnes of ore to get enough nickel and 12 tonnes of copper ore. In total,you have to process 200 tonnes of soil to make a single battery. As if that wasn't enough, this pollutes more than a petrol/diesel car does in 20 years of normal consumption. Think twice before you buy a new electric car.

I agree if you are still buying shares in Sylvania Platinum as I did again today I don't want the shares to rise too quickly too soon.

What you say reminds me of my investment in Lamprell I purchased so many shares at around 80 pence that the Stock Exchange made enquires if I was an insider trading in the shares. For years the shares traded at between three and four pounds a share and I had made millions on paper only for a profit warning and the shares fell dramatically in the end I made a loss when I sold but I was glad that I did because later there was a takeover at just a few pence a share. I am not sure if I will ever sell my significant holding in Sylvania Platinum as I love the dividends which helps fund my many months spent in Florida every year.

I appreciate your sense of humour my friend. I would say however that the dividend last year was only 10.25p making an awful yield of 10%.

As you are aware sentiment is so important in relation to the share price. Thank you for your thoughts as to the possible share price at the end of January and February. It looks like I would be better paying 104 pence as I did on my share purchase last friday rather than putting off further purchases until the end of the month. I agree with a recent poster who wanted the price to remain fairly low for a while so more stock could be purchased at that level.

Earlier today I wrote to the company to ask them to announce to the market what their dividend policy is as its unclear to me if they will be paying a further dividend in April as has been the case in the two previous years. I am hoping that they will in future pay an interim dividend in April and a final dividend in December.

Thank you for your posting. I will be interested to read your thoughts re the future share price of Sylvania Platinum. I remember John Lee writing in the Financial Times saying that if a share was a good buy not to be too concerned about paying slightly more than was intended to become a shareholder. As you will be aware various financial organisations have a target share price around 170pence so I have no problems adding to my significant holding at just north of one pound a share as I did on thursday and friday.

In the last week or two there has been far more buys than sales so I am surprised that the share price has barely moved from the quoted price of 100p-105p. However today several sales have been incorrectly listed as buys because the deals were done at just over the mid price. Personally I have been pleased that the share price has hardly moved as I made two further purchases both yesterday and today.

If my memory is correct the amount of shares being traded in Sylvania Platinum is significantly less than it was earlier in the year and the current share spread is more than it used to be. I would be surprised if the company would attempt to buy back more shares with apparently so few sellers around.

I am hopeful that when Ramsdens release their Annual Report on January 17th that the share price will follow the same pattern as H&T whose share price rose by around 20% shortly after the release of their figures. I cannot see anyway that both H&T and Ramsdens will not be doing well under the present economic situation which is affecting so many people.
