Whilst I don't agree with some of the anti-Green, mildly xenophobic rhetoric of TheSlug's post, he is spot on in highlighting the political risk associated with Ecuador. None of us have any idea who the Ecuadorians will vote in in 2025. Lasso might have a stellar 4 years and reform the country, then again his reforms might fall victim to macroeconomic conditions outside of his control (inflation, a global recession etc), resulting in the country giving another party a go.
This is in part why I'm all for a sale of Alpala/Cascabel sooner rather than later, returning cash to shareholders, or an outright sale of the whole company. It would be great to be in a position where we've all taken healthy profits from the sale of our core asset and can sit back and watch the development of Provenir, and hopefully Rio and one or two others, without being overly concerned by the not insignificant political risk.
