....is a dead language -
As dead as dead can be
- it killed off all the Romans....
- and now it's killing me !
Used to have a Latin master....Mr Pike
.....of course we called him 'Pickles' - how could you not?
Can't remember his 1st name but I'll bet it was Aloysius or Theophilus....something of that order........
Now Q.E.D might stand for 'quite easily done' these days but it's akshually......
'Quad erat demonstrandum' - 'thus it is shown' (proven...explicated..demonstrated to be true....of that order)
The wise legionnaires, having successfully negotiated without mishap the impedimenta of war.,..agreed to retire to the taverna, indeed the whole cohort, there to indulge liberally in an immodest number of amphorae....in a vulgar display of over-imbibification, thence thereafter to interfere with the serving wenches - not all of whom, it must be stressed, were actually harlots.
This notwithstanding, once the Denarii were proven to be not wooden but metal....and distributed as freely as the amphorae....which, verily....did overfloweth.
As is the nature of things, and legionnaires....indeed also harlots.....it can be safely assumed the drinking was followed by carousing and much ribaldry of a er......raucous nature.....culminating in a er (ruffling of pages in the index ensues...)
Er sir? - is this the Herodotus or the Eucydides? - oh right oh!....well sir it says here...er
- rambunctious joyous fornication......
For wise were the legionnaires - and this was not their first rhodedendron !!
- class dismissed.
