My instinct (as useless as that is!) is that people just don't want to pay. They have a feeling they might be able to do something similar without permanently getting into bed with a company that strips off such a chunk every barrel. No matter it still makes them money, it galls anyone to give a minnow billions when you feel you could (or in any case should) have done it yourself.
