Share price will immediately re-rate to reflect the dividend at point of ex-div, so zero advantage as to when you sell, aside of possible tax treatment which depends upon personal circumstances.

BoD/ senior management, will have suffered incentive reduction through financial losses last year.
So, cutting dividend and heightening share buy backs, rewards them proportionately better than a straight dividend, through their incentive packages, as explained by Zac0-4.

The reading of which will be heavy going for mere mortals.

I don't believe they will raise dividend. I'm sure they previously said it would be retained at current reduced level.
Hence share buy-backs, which don't have the same effect.
However, they do benefit senior management with their incentive packages!! Strange that, isn't it.

I don't think that any-one considers the media to be worthwhile.
