Jonah yes for sure, with 70% of cobalt being produced in DRC (mostly raw material for export to China for processing) and a large percentage of that still being mined artisanally, the opportunity for exploitation is still massive. Something the US would be very wary of investing in without safeguards in place.
There is a major cobalt reprocessing operation in DRC, Metalkol, who produce something of the order of 20,000 Tonnes of cobalt / year. They are one of the worlds largest producers. Something for Jubilee to aim at, although grades are obviously lower in Zambia than DRC.
I think the US investors wold be much more attracted to Zambia, where we are producing cobalt free from artisanal mining, and with an investor friendly administration in place. We just need to scale up in order to be a major player.
