But Poptomist, JP Morgan are not the market makers. I worked with Finncap for many years, in a board position of a UK listed tech business that Finncap were corporate brokers, Finncap are exemplars of good behaviour. I've had many a lunch with their market makers and these dirty tricks are just not happening. They capitalise on market sentiment, simple and they do not amass great numbers of shares to sell back at a much later time considerably higher, they are typically trading on a very small float and the profit margin is usually the spread, this is why you often see the share price trading inside the spread. My point is that everyone thinks the market makers are con artists and 'trying to steal your shares' etc. With the exception of very rare events this just isn't the case. Yes, they are in this for them not you...that kinda figures.
It's amazing that no one every moans about the market makers when the share price is flying!
And at any rate, why are people concerned about intraday movements of price, if you're trading this then the market maker is your enemy, if you are invested then the market maker is creating the liquidity that will, in the event of people being willing to pay more for a share, see the price increase.
