Yes, this is realistic if they do something truly groundbreaking. The Bitcoin miners will pay significant sums to get their hands on it. Qbt can name their price and restrict access. With 2M bitcoin left to mine worth possibly 100+ Billion in the near future. One billion is nothing. That's just the bitcoin bit, there are many potential applications. Trouble with UK markets is that investors are scientifically illiterate and prefer investment in oil, banks and finance. I think that Qbt is potentially worth much more than £1B.

He hasn't patented any quantum computing algorithm yet. That's to come. Patents are not always valuable, some are half-baked etc. Why patent crap tho? A lot of effort and expense for no gain. FG isn't stupid, the market wants proof that the tech works. Words on a page have little value until we have the physical evidence.
