Specificity is the proportion of people WITHOUT Disease X that have a NEGATIVE blood test. A test that is 100% specific means all healthy individuals are correctly identified as healthy, i.e. there are no false positives. At 97% specificity, 97% of the healthy population will be excluded, this enables proper screening of the entire population - PSE is the key to unlocking cost-effective and efficient mass screening for prostate cancer.
