Not just apartments. Terraces. By the million. Nowhere to plug in and even if some kind of solution is introduced , completely open to tampering/vandals. It's unfortunate but there are areas (with cars) where you wouldn't fit a window box let alone expensive charging equipment and cables etc. The closer you look the more worms escape from the can....

Or basically what people have now Bilbs. Why take backward steps , especially with regards to flexibility and convenience.

I have possessed / spent out considerably on a great many rechargeables , mainly headlamps and high powered lights for night bike rides and fishing etc. To a man , given my usual lack of reading the instructions etc. and forgetting to monitor them for months on end , they have let me down. Sometimes completely , sometimes partially , whatever they have cost me many many £00's. I suspect that Bilbs and a few others will be fine , they will adopt a state of the art approach to battery care. They will create a new society , the RSPCB. Meanwhile there's the rest of us.....

Can't pretend I understand it all but it seems like you're okay if you don't a) charge your battery too high or b) let it's charge go too low. So presumably it means you can't drive it very far on a charge , you have to charge it more frequently and if you really want to save a fortune on new batteries then best you don't drive it at all ...... This way you can save some time and use it wisely working out the optimal charging routine ie. when , where , low long , how high , not too low , not whilst the kettles on , etc.

Agreed Spicers. It's all about 'in a perfect world'. It isn't. I also suspect the maths within the perfect world scenario and whether the human nature variables can be incorporated. As Bilbs said recently all forecasts by their very nature are wrong.

I'd like to have a feel for the numbers I guess. Anyone know how many slices of toast equates to running an HGV for the day? Daft question I know but it should be relatively simple to equate running an HGV to running X average households? I suspect X could be quite a few.

Don't underestimate delivery vehicles/HGV's then add trains , ships , maybe planes one day. Where will all this energy come from and when will it be available? I'm a massive supporter of wind turbines but for once , bearing in mind we will need tens of thousands of the things , what happens during a passive period? It's the sheer scale that my head is saying 'can't work' to.

I'm not sure if I hope you're right Bilbs , probably not , but human nature will come in to play here. People will sit with their cars ready to go. Five minute refill trips won't exist. In any case my point and feeling is that the grid struggles now and that's with fossil fuel assistance fulfilling a major part of our energy needs. Okay there will be a few batteries connected up but the majority won't be. Hopefully we'll have some H2 knocking about too but that requires another electricity draw we don't have currently.

P.s. .... And don't want to see it because it makes me wonder why I'm invested here to some degree.

But not 99% empty of fuel. Check out the roads Bilbs , an awful lot of energy being used. If you're anticipating running the countries 38.4 M vehicles by juggling as yet largely non-existent energy then I hope you've been circus trained. Cannot see it.

Prepared to be shot down here but here goes ( after a minute or so's in depth research):

38.4 million vehicles in the UK
A 150 bhp vehicle (average car) would require an 111,000 watt electric engine (apparently)

Multiply the two and you get a requirement of 4260 Gigawatts or so.

Then substitute HGV's etc. for some of the 38.4 M , start to think about trains , boats , planes? , and the odd kettle?

Isn't this thing about the sheer scale of the numbers and/or please feel free to shoot....

Apologies. Big problems ahead I feel. The numbers are huge and the potential for ITM will be similar.

I think C and C's point was the grid is having problems now so what happens when demand is upped many fold with the tens of millions of EV's getting their several times weekly charge?

Taken a while but very welcome and very much steady as she goes. Looking forward to some decent contract news and maybe another foot up. GLA
