70m in the bank does not last long when flying 76 aircraft around. Especially when everybody knows you are up forsale. They will want their money. Fuel, catering, handling agents, landing fees and staff. Will the credit agreements stay in place or is it pay as you go. Now CAA and Balpa involved. Will they keep there AOC with all the uncertainty.

Flybe has called in accountants from KPMG as the low-cost airline attempts to save itself from collapse.

Britain’s biggest regional airline sounded the alarm yesterday by putting itself up for sale. The announcement came as half-year profits plunged and the company’s auditor, PwC, warned of “significant doubt” over its future.

KPMG has been appointed to provide Flybe with advice on its cash flow. City sources said the Monarch Airlines administrator is the frontrunner to take on a potential insolvency.

Flybe burnt through £32.5m of cash during the the first half of its financial year. It revealed that credit card providers subsequently demanded £9.4m of extra collateral “as security to cover their risk for unflown flight refunds”.

The Daily Telegraph also understands that Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is monitoring Flybe’s financial situation, following the disruptive collapse of rival Monarch last year. Flybe said its contact with the regulator was by way of “ongoing normal dialogue”.

The company warned that if credit card providers demand more cash and further funds cannot be accessed, “a material uncertainty” could be raised over its “ability to continue as a going concern”.

PwC issued an “emphasis of matter” - one step short of officially qualifying the accounts - to underline threat of a cash crunch and re-iterate a “significant doubt” hanging over the future of the airline.

Flybe chief executive Christine Ourmières-Widener insisted the company was not planning for a potenital insolvency.

“We are not in that situation at all,” she said. At the time, Ms Ourmières-Widener said only PwC was assisting for audit purposes. A spokesman for the company later admitted KPMG had been hired as well.

Investment bankers from Evercore have been appointed to conduct “a comprehensive review of the various strategic options”. Options include a “formal sale process”.

“All options are considered, including the full sale of the company,” said Ms Ourmières-Widener.

“There are a number of valuable assets that we can monetise.”

Flybe said it “is in discussions with a number of strategic operators about a potential sale”

Aviation and energy conglomerate Stobart, whose executives are currently locked in a bitter trial with former boss Andrew Tinkler, made an approach for Flybe earlier this year.

Sources said it was a “fluid situation” and Stobart may make a fresh offer for the low-cost airline, probably in partnership with another financial backer such as a private equity firm.

Flybe employs more than 2,000 people and flies nearly 200 routes across 11 countries. Unions said they would put “any potential bids under the microscope”.

I can't read the full article as I'm not a subscriber to this shyte and would neer buy the paper. Looks like they have an agenda here. Very contradictory to the rest of the press. Avocet123 - I sold my £35k worth of FLYBE today around 15.5p for a decent profit (average purchased at 11.30p - I'll let you do the maths but that's a profit of around £9.5k profit). Then bought back a bit too early at 12.7p, 11.75p, and 11.24p to total £34k worth at average just under 12p giving about £2k back to the market in terms of paper loss so far. So not too shabby really. Clon - I have average 0.335p so not worried here. How about you today mate?
