I'm with you on that. During the presentation a couple of weeks ago they said it was because the NVTs were cash rich and didn't need extra funds. News of the proposed raise so soon after gives the lie to that. At the last count the three VCT's had £78m cash.
As Mercia seem to have run out of ideas for the time being, what are they going to spend all their lolly on? Still think the announced 1% divi was miserly.

The lock-in period for 16.8m shares issued @ 25p (initial consideration £16.6m cash and £4.2m in shares) was 18 months ie. to back end of June. Good bit of business and Mr. Market has been kind to them.
The back of my Sondermischung packet values our fund management business at 16p/share on AUM read across, against 7p-10p seen elsewhere, but only worth what someone will pay for it.
The markets look toppy and Merc seem to be struggling to find value, hence the cash sitting in the bank.

Spending £1.2m on the maiden final dividend with £54m ready cash in the bank is certainly modest. Plenty of scope for future increase as promised and they must think they need the dry powder for upcoming investment.
