Yes to both lol, we have have a young core, after covid we lost the backbone of the band through cadets aging out & the new blood have missed out on their guidance and leadership. So the irony now is that these youngsters are now relative veterans with priceless experience on quite possibly the biggest days they will ever encounter in their time as a cadet. Our moto is "inspire to achieve"
The sole purpose of what we do is to give the kids an opportunity to strive for more in life, instill confidence & self worth & a belief to succeed in life. Something they don't always get from their school day's & indeed some get more from cadets than they get from homelife.
I include myself in the last statement & am simply repaying the gratitude & carrying on the tradition through serious fun.

Great news about your good lady with her treatment Les & wishing you both the very best.

Good evening.
I've had a fantastic experience last week with the Band and Bugles of Durham & Somerset ACF. As part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
We've been staying at longmoor CTC (cadet training camp) travelling to Wellington Barracks for meals & changing then marching through the streets to Horseguards & back again for rehearsals with a heavy police escort & corden in place.
We arrived last Saturday to prepare for our display at on Wednesday & Thursday evening.
Also we had rehearsals with the massed Bands and Bugles of the Rifles for the Finale. It was very intense work in the heat, with a hectic schedule. The Cadets were amazingly very well behaved & on the whole, worked extremely hard with no dramas. They're a credit to their peers & parents alike.
We performed a very complex display & finale with the Massed Bands. All this was done at rifles pace of 140. Some videos are already on YouTube for those interested. Just search (YouTube) for Paul foggin Horseguards Parade 2022.
I had to leave after Thursday's performance on Thursday (10-15pm) for work Friday at 06-30 travelling overnight with a few other's.
Arrived back at Durham at 4-30 to collect my car drive home & quickly empty the car, grab my work gear & arriving at work 5 minutes early for a double shift, so i'm kinda feeling it.
But on the whole our cadets had a great time & what a story they have to tell back at school.
Performing for Prince Michael of Kent on Wednesday then for the New Colonel of the Regiment . Camilla on the Thursday.

Good morning Pete
Not been on here much this week, just back from Horseguards, performing with the Rifles.
We finished at 10pm then straight on the transport travelled over night got home at 5am grabbed my work gear & off to work.
The Band smashed it infront of Camilla, oue new Colonel of the Regiment. We averaged 8 miles a day since Sunday.

I'm currently travelling to London with The Band & Bugles of Durham ACF.
We're playing at Horseguards next week Wed/Thurs evening, as part of the Jubilee celebrations.
Its a very hectic week ahead for us all, not to mention a once in a lifetime opportunity for our cadets to perform with the Rifles bands infront of the new Colonel of the Regiment Camilla, who takes charge from the late Prince Philip.

I've continued to hold & add & as you say, it pretty much depends upon your appetite for risk, i haven't got a time frame either so can wait however long it takes. I have more than doubled my holding since February which is my choice.

I remember watching the Olympics in 1980 (You have to bear in mind i'm a Geordie, when it comes to the end of the race comments)
