I think you're being too cynical. As when they don't offer longs they also don't offer shorts either. Only closing trades.
I think this has more to do with volatility on a particular stock. Anyway good discussion. Hopefully we see 70p by the end of the week!

It's in IG's interest that you are successful.. They want you to keep trading with them so they cream you from the spread.

Okehurst - they do not bet against 'punters' . They hedge against both longs & shorts. Not in the business of prop trading. You've got the business all wrong... Most people lose money with them because they use leverage they cannot afford.

IG hedge their book internally first longs vs Shorts on each stock. Then hedge externally. They don't take positions either way for themselves. Make their money on the spread.

You can go long and short on IG at the moment.

You may not technically own any shares but you still have the same economic position but on borrowed money. I dont't know why you needed that comment to someone who has just lost alot of money..

Retail shorts are probably have minor impact on the market..its the ones who short in millions that cause the damage when there are no demand from buyers.

2Pheves - you cannot buy THG on margin at IG. So I don't think you can trade any leveraged products eg Spreadbets or CFD

Jongle - If you're not long or short on Boo then why do you have such an interest? Not saying that your views aren't correct but just curious to why you post so much on here..
