I remember when I was about 13, going on a visit to see a LEO machine at the Lyons offices in Holborn. A school visit. I walked inside the central processor "room", about 10 foot square with racks of valves on all the walls. A team of engineers were needed all the time to keep it running. A run of 20 minutes without breakdown was considered a good period. I was hooked. I started making an analogue computer for a school project, then a digital added using an old GPO uniselector, used in exchanges. Those were the days........feed into Monty Python Secret Policeman's Ball sketch. Ha
