Have just arranged a "green card", although some say I shouldn't need it. Same iffyness applies to the International Driving Licence. Ho hum. Travelling to France is easier corvid-wise than getting back although there is talk of the PCR test requirement for returnees being waived if one is double vaacinated. Maybe that will become trip vaacinated if the booster programme gets going. Another problem I may have with my return is that Brittany Ferries keep reducing the number of sailings...it already appears that I will have to change my departure port from Roscoff to St Malo instead. Doh.
I have been keeping busy by using, showing and now repairing my old Citroen. Sadly it will have to go into a specialist body workshop to have serious sill repairs. I have been treating the inside floor and boot floor with "Zinc 182" rust treatment. Something I should have done 10 years ago.
Sold some ARB at 149p just now (those bought at 142), hoping to get back in at below 147p.
N.. advice on trading out of a losing position? If there is perfect answer then I don't know what it is. T and I have covered these strategies before. T has explained his well and I can't really disagree with him. I trade differently and find it exceedingly hard to sell at a loss although I have done it a few times to get some money into play to try and make a profit somehow.
It's Murphy's law of course but the moment one sells a share it goes up! So what can one do? What I do is to take a view on a shares prospects (and also it's prospects to change within a small timescale) and trade accordingly. For example if I have confidence a share price will recover in say, 10 days to weeks, I would sell ( at a loss) to use the funds elsewhere. However, I would only sell a proportion of my holding for FOMO reasons as T said. The proportion I would sell depends on my current view of that shares prospects. Of course if one only holds a comparative low value (share price x number of shares), it may not be worth while to split a holding.
Generally I agree with T, keep trading rather than waiting a long time for a share to recover. I havent been trading for maybe three months now and I haven't been making any money, if fact, the value of my holdings have been drifting down. I will get back to some active trading but not quite yet. I did sell about 30% of my ARB (at a loss) just before the bell today but I expect to be buying them back tomorrow morning (fingers crossed).
I am going back to France on 24th Sept, so think of me enjoying myself!
Good morning Brigands.
Sorry I have been AWOL for so long. I have been doing lots of jobs around the house and helping with local Fete, phew.
We are going to "our" private beach near Bude today. Hope everyone has a good day and an enjoyable long weekend. Its F1 as well.
N-B tempted to say that a loss isn't really a loss till you are down 100%! But that's no help...you have done well to come back from 70% down, keep up the good work. Still got a tranche of 88E, which are in profit (+20%) but hanging on for a big payday...I keep reading good news is imminent...ha, jam tomorrow I think.
T...Happy birthday.
Sorry I have been AWOL so much lately. Had two glorious days at Bude, not the busy beaches but our "own" private beach that we usually get to ourselves. Otherwise I have been painting the house walls. It's a biggish house and I have neglected painting it for a while. Consequently, the walls needed a lot of preparation. I have done about a third of it. I guess progress will slow down now that the good weather has passed.
Glad to see ARB coming good. Haven't doe any trading for a couple of weeks.
Good luck all.
Read an item yesterday that Virgin have a cruise liner (sorry, I know it has had it a year!) it has been parked for a couple of days in Torbay and is moving back towards Southampton now. Apparently the have a couple more on order. Apologies if this is old news.
Good morning Brigadiers.
T..Sorry to hear of the continuing anst with your neighbours. I expect you are keen to have a good start with the next neighbours. Here's hoping.
m...get well soon or am I too late.
I was busy yesterday throwing stuff out, mostly paperwork going back to the early 80s. I looked up on line how long to keep records, tax, vat, bills, executor stuff etc etc. Decided that I am just a hoarder. (and a skinflint...why else would I still be keeping and using 1960s christmas decorations)....but only at christmas! LOL
well I managed to drive the Amazon about 200m and discovered that the brakes were seized. Had to reverse it home. Ha, a few hours work and loads of WD40 later and I have now driven it 300m and the brakes are starting to work.
Tried a quick in and out on ASC today but I got in but didn't get out. Looks like I am holding for the weekend.
88E have done me two good turns over the last few weeks, the news is bullish so I bought back late this afternoon after their retrace.
More good news is that I seem to be dealing enough that IG are only charging me £3 per trade on one of our accounts.
Hope the brigade had some good news as well.
Have a jolly good weekend all.
o...I love using our local once a week bus to go shopping. Great atmosphere (in a good way) on the bus and lots of laughs. Cake and biscuits and ice creams get passed around...truly civilised.
V...I get 50-55mpg out of the Corsa but only 23mpg with the citroen. Probably the same with the Amazon. I am on a high today as I have finally got the Amazon to run well...a combination of new plugs and sorting out an intewrmitant connection HT lead from coil to distributor. Whoopee, going for a ride in it tomorrow.
88E up 38% today, I sold too early but made 16% profit. Earlier, I thought it was only 11%
Cor Blimey, 2 profits in one day...feels like old times. Did an in and out on ASC (sold using limit sale). Also, I have sold 88E....+22% today, think I made around 11%
Put £51 worth of petrol in Corsa yesterday, that's the most I have EVER put in a car......Think I just doubled the Corsa's value!
