Evening C7, Bunsie,
My wife and I have barely been anywhere since lockdown. We leave the house only for a walk.
We used to eat out every Friday evening at either of two local pubs. I have several conditions that would make Covid worse - age, asthma, male, high BP and being on omeprazole. Since working from home on lock down I have developed sciatica which has got progressively worse over the past 12 weeks so now unable to work at all.
We don’t miss the food eating out, most dishes I can could as well if not better myself. I have also added some new dishes to my repertoire (such as Moussaka which has become a family favourite).
Sunday roasts are a thing of the past as our shopping slot is Sunday evening, too late to cook that day and not enough shelf life for the following week. What doesn’t come we go without. This week it was icing sugar and painkillers- ouch!
The thing we miss about eating out is the social experience. Eating out overseas is even better as often you will get new dishes, impossible to cook at home as you just couldn’t get the ingredients (perhaps in London you could but not in the sticks). Your Naples experience sounds nice Bunsie, made me think of seafood at Jordan’s on Darling harbour. Every bit as good as Doyle’s but without the premium price tag. I like ribeye but the ribeye you get in the US is very different to what we get here. I imagine it’s because it is cut differently?
C7, “are we ludicrously cheap” is a good question. I tried to initiate a debate on it but there we very few takers.
Bunsie, well done on your triumph.
