Question from Mr. Jaroslav:
Hello. I would like to ask about lithium mining. Obtaining lithium is technologically demanding and expensive. Batteries require a lot of precious metals. Car manufacturers know this, which is why lithium is the first thing they get rid of, batteries require a lot of precious metals, clear and expensive.
The Minister of Industry and Trade answers:
Well, first of all, as far as lithium is concerned, you know that the ball is in our court thanks to our previous government. At that time, we ensured that through ČEZ we took control of Geomet, which is the company that will eventually mine there before the multinational owner, what is important is that we can mine in a way that will be under state control and at the same time, of course, subsequently process the final decision, which will be, I dare say, relatively soon, because we first had to secure how it will be mined for B, where it will be processed with regard to the overall logistics. And of course, various comments, requirements of surrounding municipalities, all of this is behind us and logically the most important factor will be economic profitability, now all scenarios are being calculated with regard to the likely development of the lithium price, which is not easy at all, the statutes, that is, we work with positive, negative scenarios, etc. And based on that, ČEZ will ultimately decide whether to go ahead with it or not. I dare say that it is on the right track, because it is logistically prepared, it is also prepared from the point of view, as I said, of controlling the company, in terms of economic profitability, which is absolutely essential, so we will know in the next few months, I dare say, and then the final, final preparations will begin. So. And you also add here, mining that lithium is probably no longer worth the destruction of nature. But personally I think that it is heading towards the fact that mining will take place there.
