I was hoping that they might do another pilot scheme in Kenya, the oil is very low sulphur and raised a lot more money than was expected.

If oil prices persist over 60 usd then it does provide a more attractive environment for concluding farm downs in Uganda and Kenya this year.

Reviewing statements by the Executive Chairman it seems possible that there will be further details in the trading statement on the matter of "reducing our cost base". A credible plan for slashing overheads would be a very sensible improvement they could initiate immediately.

I had thought they might make Les Wood CEO, but if they were going to do that it would have happened by now. Not sure there is any other internal candidate so more likely an outsider. I am hoping for someone with Africa/large operator experience.

Having no plan to replace CEO immediately means there is no strategy in place worth listening to - it could all change 180 degrees as soon as someone is in place. Looking at the trades by volume it's looking rather sad and desperate. I am not sure how much downside these guys are targeting, I guess they smelled blood on the brief 20% drop after carapa-1 news.

We seem sure that the shorters are dripping shares ahead of the trading update, presumably soon they will run out. A positive trading statement may start an uptrend aided by unwinding shorts.

SXX and OPHR were in the toilet for years before their "rescue takeovers" at well below NAV. Are we really saying that Tullow Oil is in that position a few weeks after a production forecast downgrade that many on here believe is likely deliberately setting a low bar for a new CEO. I am not naive enough to realize they are vulnerable to a buyout, but I don't see why Tullow's board would even give it consideration for as long as it has a say. Aside from everything else I think there is a lot of interest in Tullow remaining independent.

If that was all they wanted why buy Tullow? Why not just buy some of Tullow's 60% Orinduik stake. Fact is Tullow is confident it can hit in Orinduik and won't be reducing it's stake until it does.

Ghana is not the prize.

Now you really are talking rubbish. The jubilee fields have nearly a decade more of production at some of the lowest cost across the sector. They are by far Tullow's best asset. Guyana at this stage is important on the exploration side of the business but is essentially non-core for "Africa's leading independent oil company".

You need to recognize that a recovery to the levels you want is going to take time, maybe two or three years even. The fact is that the price is pretty much level because shares are changing hands, there is volume there, the interest is there one way or the other. The companies you mention where dead in the water with only a single, unlikely glimmer of hope for rescue.

It's not even a month since the updates and half of that was holidays...

Those businesses aren't even remotely comparable.
