I think Tullow are a fine company. They may not be able to hold on to their CEO's but they have found a standard replacement from the "C suite" who makes Roy Hodgson look charismatic. A safe pair of hand indeed. He won't lose you money (well it looks like Cairn might get some back - that went well) but he can be relied on to run a tight ship and keep control of the Danish Pastry Float at High Road Chiswick which is very important to some. Look after the cookies and the halfpennies look after themselves. A promising future ahead for this company imo.

Good point Oculus. It would be a disaster for ML and his family but would leave DT largely unaffected as the more sensationalist journalists go seeking fresh prey. The sub-editor chose "snake oil" as even the most serious news media still need click-bait to attract eyeballs and advertising. Many do not read the articles below the headlines/bylines.
The ramifications of extraditing ML would have a lot of unforeseen consequences and in fact might make many of our leading individuals in tech very loathe to live and work in the US. There are other markets. It probably already has an impact. Other countries aren't quite so obsequious as the UK is to the US and their demands that they rule this space.
I think a short negative if the decision goes against ML and a minor bump up if he wins, The losers here will be ML and family plus the US. I expect our image around the world to suffer too. A country recently led by Donald Trump taking the moral high ground. Give me a break!
ML has quite a lot of supporters and has done a lot of good for the UK. I'm one of them.

It is not unusual to have rampers, fluffers or whatever you want to call them and they aren't too difficult to spot. They use anonymity because any personal detail will be false and therefore a lie so quite easily forgotten by the perpetrator so they give little away. Nothing wrong per se but one of the problems here has been that no physical AGM has occurred. I'm a newbie here with a small investment. I hope to get through the deluge of postings most of which are banal and of little help. I was a large holder of Autonomy and this is my first foray back into this area. I cannot see ML having any influence in the current accountancy within the company and the internal and external auditors are well aware that governance here must be of the highest order. Unfortunately the first AGM any of us will be able to attend will be in November and unless there is a presentation where small PI's can attend we are unlikley to meet another PI face to face until then.
I forecast that many of the most active posters on here will be unable to attend. If I am still a holder (likely) then I will attend and it will give some authenticity to this board along with any other posters who attend. If you can spend best part of the day on here I would find it surprising if a poster didn't make the effort.
From memory I remember that you need a very high security status to be able to deal with (for instance) the Pentagon. Autonomy bought companies just to speed up the process if they had staff with the right credentials. I expect we have individuals like this.
The complaint that the company doesn't inform the market of their customers and details of deals misses two important points. Commercial sensitivity and it might be the customer who demands silence. Plus, surely this whole business is about not giving advance information to evil-doers.
Hopefully a few of us might meet up at a company event. I'm pretty confident that one person on here will not be there.

I responded to a post by bobocaca and it was almost immediately removed along with the original post by him [bobocaca]. On other message boards such posts remain and encourage robust debate. These actions make this message board a waste of time. It is one person with an extraordinary amount of time to devote to promulgating his message. Worrying.

We are on page 259. We are a dot in the financial galaxy. At 30 June 2021 Scroder was managing £114.8 billion. Baillie Gifford manage and advise around £ 346 bn. We are in 3 funds with them and are 0.10, 0.17, 0.39 in each of them. The Universe is huge and we are a dying planet according to financial astronomers. We'll just have to enjoy the short term cash we are making. Remember to sell out in 15 - 30 years.

Hi T - good find. It appears we can't curate our old posts as before but I posted the remaining O&G investments by the large funds and we were infinitesimal with the likes of BG and Schroder. I doubt The Ferret represents the more pragmatic Scottish residents and are they prepared to accept penury if they ever go it alone? Norway (I need to declare conflict of interest here as I may soon be a national) are already showing the way to transition and maximise their natural resources. I don't see the US giving up their shale resources either any time soon.
There appears to be some kind of romanticism that is dragging Scotland back to an age of William Wallace. Actually, many people like living in the 21st Century. I do.
If Putin and the Ukraine doesn't show governments the need to have reliable and secure energy resources then I don't know what will.

Barnet weather: Another cold day, windless and overcast.

This Ukraine dispute has got me thinking. If it worsens the already rich Norwegians will see a sizeable increase in their Sovereign Wealth Fund as Europe forms an orderly queue for their gas & oil. I thought at first of buying Equinor but they've actually done worse than us in the last year so I've had to resort to a more creative/cunning approach. Through the good offices of 23andme I have evidence of my 5.9% Scandinavian ancestry. Even more importantly 2.1% of that amount is NW European which means Svalbard so definitely a Norwegian national (I didn't consider Sweden because the only thing they've got going for them is that they have more Eurovision wins than Norway.)

I'm not sure of the next step. Do I apply for nationality or put myself up for adoption? Any advice welcome.

Hi bobocaca - most stories are balanced if it is by a seasoned journalist as they are trained to get a right of reply whenever possible. Ethical journalism and fact checking are benefits of following this practise. The Guardian (I don't buy it) is a highly reputable and like all good media outlets they always give an institution or person the right of reply. It is of course diametricallty the oipposite politically of the Telegraph.
The journalist does not write the byline. That is the job of the sub-editor.
This article is just regurgitating old news with nothing fresh. There was no urgency to get a 'right of reply' and I daresay DT would have ignored a request. There is always noise and agendas.
I think there is an air of desperation around those trying to air this view and we should follow DT's lead and ignore it. This is fodder for small PI's who aren't so inured as the professionals who'd rather trust their own research.
I have a small holding here which disciplines me too keep up to date. i hope to increase, there isn't a rush.
