Since Revel, Seps innovates to recover hazardous waste

Taken over in July 2020 by two employees, the specialist in environmental issues, Seps, was a pioneer in the biological treatment of polluted land. The company is developing several projects to go even further in the recovery of hazardous waste.
The Revéloise company Seps has designed its own intervention trucks for the maintenance of hydrocarbon installations, capable of operating on site the sorting between the depolluted water and the various waste to be treated.
Established since 1994 in Revel (Haute-Garonne), the company Seps does not distinguish itself a priori from other players in the environmental professions, with its collection trucks and its soil stored before depollution. However, it is on this two-hectare site that the SME (23 employees, 2019 turnover: €3.4 million) has been working for fifteen years now to find innovative solutions to create new uses for hazardous waste, and improve the treatment of hydrocarbon installations. A positioning that the two buyers of the company since July 2020, Laurent Rousseau and Sylvain Cazeres, intend to deepen in 2021.
Economic and environmental optimization
"We carry out two-thirds of our activity on the maintenance of installations containing industrial water, mainly the hydrocarbon separators of service stations, indicates Laurent Rousseau, president of Seps. Faced with large sanitation groups, we are the only SME to work on a national scale thanks to a differentiation: the optimization of maintenance operations from an economic and environmental point of view." The SME has a fleet of seven vehicles of its own design, which perform on-site sorting between the water contained in the separators (cleaned up and reinjected into the networks), and the waste to be treated (hydrocarbons and sludge) . A solution that limits the volumes moved and allows Seps to maximize the use of its trucks.
At the same time, the company acquired a fleet of light vehicles in order to expand its offer of services for the maintenance upstream of hydrocarbon separators. "We can go further in this logic of services to make our customers' installations more reliable and reduce the risk of emergency intervention, with solutions that will combine technical innovation and data analysis", indicates Sylvain Cazeres, technical director of Seps. .

CF Fertilisers in Billingham use natural gas as one of the feedstocks for their process, which they then extract the hydrogen from, to use to make ammonia.

EQTEC could either supply hydrogen directly or syngas (which could then be processed by CF Fertilisers in a similar way to natural gas to extract the hydrogen).
This is what DP had to say in the Proactive interview on 28th October,

It’s a very interesting industrial estate with huge industrial and chemicals partners that not only are they looking at how they can decarbonise the electricity that they're using, these are industries with very very heavy demand of electrical and thermal energy but now also we are opening discussions in all those sites about utilising the syngas as a fuel in some of the processes. Providing steam as well and also extracting methane or hydrogen from our syngas. That's going to be more and more important and relevant, there’s a lot of incentives in the government now, everyone knows from biofuels and renewable fuel incentives and all these companies that are in that space, they require the raw material that we produce which is a syngas, where we have, where we're able to control not only the quality but also produce a syngas to the specific specification of the specific process that the catalyser requires."

Anaergia separate out the organics and the recyclables (glass/metal) from the waste, leaving the rdf (plastics etc). The organics are processed through their anaerobic digestion plant, producing biomethane which can either be injected into the gas grid or used to generated electricity.
From the planning documents submitted for the Phase I planning application at Southport, the digestate/sludge from the anaerobic digestors, 63 tonnes/day, "will be dried and combined to produce RDF for energy production elsewhere".

If understand this correctly, the 'left-overs' from the anaerobic digestion will be dried and combined with the separated inorganic RDF (which has been dried and shredded), then pressed into pellets and used to fuel the gasifier.
It should all become clear once the planning application for Southport Phase II is submitted (the EQTEC plant) then we can see the whole picture.

Using this approach, EQTEC/Anaergia can extract maximum value/energy from the waste and reduce it's volume down to a fraction of that received onsite.
I agree Pacifico, I think there is a still a project currently being looked at in France that we haven't been given the details of yet by EQTEC,

We know that the biomass-to-energy plant is Biomasse 31, and the contaminated plastics plant is the agreement with SEPS, which just leaves the "retro-fitting of legacy, fossil fuel facilities for reuse as cleantech businesses".
Retrofitting is obviously a quicker turnaround than a brand new facility.....fingers crossed!
