I think this notion of a lone institutional seller keeping the price down, is nonsense. More likely, it is traders - or those who know how historically volatile the sp is, simply taking profit whenever they can.

The law of supply and demand. There are still some decent BA deals on <5*hotels.

I priced up a BA holiday last week - NYC for 7 nights, 5* hotel, late Sep 21. It was £1300. Checked again today and it is £2300. I think it is fair to say that demand is surging (and prices are being adjusted accordingly).

I couldn’t care less where the sp goes on Monday or in the next month (or year). I am very interested in where it will be in 3-5 years time. I am reasonably confident it will be £2-3 - and starting to pay a divi again.

I’m taking my dad for his jab on Monday. Everyone over 80 we know or know of seems to have had it or been offered it. Within a few weeks, the vaccination rollout will have a huge exponential impact on current Covid trends.. For example, only 2% of the UK population (i.e. those over 80) need to be vaccinated to bring the death rate down by 40%.

It appears the airlines were briefed beforehand and were in agreement with the government, given that the release of statements from both were almost simultaneous.

Airlines UK chief executive Tim Alderslade said: ”We therefore support this latest measure, on the assumption that we will work with Government – when the time is right – to remove these restrictions when it is safe to do so and start to open up our sector again, to support the UK’s economic recovery”.

Whatever the reason, his placing appears to have helped in knocking off circa 15% from the SP in one week.

Plus, a good write-up in the Daily Mail or on Motley Fool wouldn’t hurt.

Yawn. Usual overreaction from the market. The country has been at a virtual standstill for almost a year. What did they expect? As usual, sp will recover. Long-term this is still an excellent buy.

Hmm, let’s hope PL isn’t eyeing up his hand grenade box this time.

Norwegian will now concentrate on its short-haul routes, but it is an airline in trouble and its survival is looking doubtful. In the event of Norwegian’s collapse, operators like EasyJet would benefit.

Norwegian’s transatlantic business never made money. They even had a picture of Freddie Laker on one of their tail fins - ironic now. Covid hastened what was probably inevitable. They rebuffed an offer from IAG (thankfully). That may account for the huge reserves IAG had, going into the Covid crisis. Hubris is what did for Norwegian. Very sad for the employees, but hopefully they will get jobs with the airlines filling the gaps left by Norwegian.

The demise of Norwegian Air’s London-NYC service has been mentioned several times here today, with some (rather bafflingly) dismissing this development as not particularly significant. Given that Norwegian has (or had) a 10% share of London-NYC operations (British Airways/American's share is 48.7%), I think this is the main reason for today’s gain and will have a significant effect on BA profits in the future. According to Peel Hunt, “IAG may also be able to take on some of Norwegian's aircraft leases at very attractive rates to reduce the average age of its fleet and considerably improve fuel efficiency”.

Thank you to those doing the detailed research here. With my modest holding in PPC, it is one I’m just keeping on the back burner while hoping for better days ahead. Good to see some positive movement though.

Every time our tortoise gets going, PL seems to put it back into hibernation. Hopefully 2021 will be different.

Precisely. Indeed, for those who reinvest their divi or otherwise top-up occasionally, the lower sp can present very good buying opportunities.

It is easy to get emotionally carried away where we think we can see unwarranted sp manipulation, but complaining about it is as useful as ranting about the weather.

Whatever is keeping the sp down, it will rebound, as sure as night follows day. As with unexplained falls, the rebounds are often spontaneous and equally baffling. I'm not a great one for conspiracy theories. A lot of this is simply based on whim and fad.

It is always heartening to see short sellers taking a hit.

It is great to see the sparse, sober and rather subdued chat about blue chips like Rio, compared with some of the excitable, immature and provocative chat we often see regarding other shares.

Nothing now, apparently.
