I also watched the full CMD including the Q&A, it’s where I picked up that RR SMR would be cash generative from day1 of build rather than having to wait the 5years until build completion. There were several nuggets in the CMD which if found interesting, considering how much of my portfolio is RR it pays to be aware of continued risk/reward balance and if I can justify RR being +60% of my holding.

Davey, some good news for you, if you’ve got RR in a SIPP then no capital gains to pay, & doesn’t need to go on a self assessment when you sell. When you start drawing down your pension it gets taxed as income instead (excluding the 25% tax free element). Am assuming you’re UK based.

I just think that sometimes people put models together (and they might be very clever people) but then purport them to be fact, how many times have we seen that previously?

So now you want to limit the information that the AI can look at, do you see a problem there? Any AI decision will be limited, I’d rather back myself and take personal responsibility for it. The world is constantly changing - I’d rather assess my own changing level of risk tolerance rather than let some AI make those assumptions on my behalf, if you’re comfortable with that then that’s up to you & I wish you well with it.

Ultimately however we are trying to predict the future, but “I don’t need roads where i’m going” - BTTF.

I wouldn’t trust AI, how many articles have there been referencing RR motor cars? If people get it wrong so will AI as that is the data it’s trained on.

I think with the explosion of ETFs and passively managed funds over the recent decade (now at about 70% of the market), it’s creating plenty of opportunities for the contrarian/stock picking investor. More people are successful as investors with longer term horizons rather than as short term get in/ get out traders.

Anyone at RR know what month this 40% capacity increase started/ due to start in 2025.

I haven’t yet, but notice you can claim back for a 4 year period starting Feb25 effectively. Looks like a reduction to 10% withheld for UK residents, so almost half of the withholding amount refunded. I would also like to hear from someone that has already done this or is going through the process.

Have no engineering experience but I can’t see anyone taking the risk of an open fan design, the further strengthening of the main fuselage around the wing area in case of a blade off must outweigh the efficiency benefit? - there won’t be any windows (a weak point) there to see it. Surely it adds too much risk to a risk adverse industry.

Much like they do with the larger reactors they’ll be putting multiple SMRs on each site, so maybe 6 lots of 6 (on average). Personally I don’t think they’ll have any SMRs on non current designated nuclear sites for 30 years (if ever) due to security/population proximity and other concerns. I think UK government are unlikely to end up hitting their 2050 20GW nuclear target, & if the orders start flowing in from Europe then RR are going to need more than one factory (each factory producing 2 a year each). If they can end up delivering on SMRs (for cost &time), then we will never build a large reactor again.

By 2035 only Hinckley Point C is expected to be operational from our existing/being built Nuclear fleet (3.2GW), the rest being beyond their extended life. Assuming Sizewell is the same another 3.2GW. UK ambition is for 24GW of nuclear by 2050. So that equates to 17.6GW from SMR or 37.4 RR SMR’s. (470MW each).

3 SMRs is pretty lacklustre, I was expecting 6-8 for starters - it hardly inspires confidence.

Hoping it doesn’t put off the other European buyers. Labour should’ve scrapped some of the other green projects like carbon capture to fund a decent number.

i reckon tufan would already be building an smr factory in europe had rr not been given certain assurances.

Am not quite in your league but I’ve also made life changing money (for me).

Have not been enjoying my job recently (& am on a very average wage), but RR is making me consider retirement at the tender age of 50 - that’s not a position I’d ever thought I’d be in.

Am still a big RR holder and will remain so for at least the short term SMR news, - including I believe future contracts from other European countries - but I will continue to reassess accordingly.

Well done to all the long term holders who now have large amounts invested, there have been numerous opportunities to sell or reduce exposure over the last few years, it’s takes a certain amount of self belief/stubbornness to continue to hold throughout.
